Title: Electric window keeps blowing fuse.
Post by: dan7 on 31 May 2009, 08:14
After my E/W failed, I bought and fitted two genuine sh regs&motors. All worked fine, until the fuse decided to actually melt and blow! So, as the cables and stuff on the regs were a bit scabby, I tracked down some mint, used ones. Fitted the pair yesterday. Both working fine. But after about two minutes, ignition on/driving, the fuse blew. I fitted a 20A one instead of the 15A that was in there. That blew too. It's not blowing thru useage, it's blowing with time, if that makes sense! And there's also an accrid smell from the fusebox. Any ideas?

fact they blow when windows not actually in use suggests you have a fault in the switches or wiring. disconnect both switches and try again. if fuse still blows check the relay and wiring from it, looking for any chafes or bare plugs.
