Title: Modifications that don't impact my warranty?
Post by: Bobnaldo on 30 May 2009, 15:36
Please can I get some advice as to what I can do to my Std GTI to make it a little faster without impacting the warranty?

Cheers

Any performance modification that alters the car from standard power will affect any warranty claim you may need. Having said that, if your rear lights stopped working after putting in a remap, they will hardly be in a position to reject the claim.

I kept my car stock for the short time it took me to ensure that the car was okay. I then set about modding the sh!t out of it, so there's not a lot standard left to claim on

who cares about warranty?
I surely don't. I have 2 more years of warranty, but I tune my car nonetheless.
We only live once, and every time you buy a car there is warranty of some sort which destroys all the fun. Money is there to make it and spend it.

Can't understand people that buy a fast car and worry about gas consumption. Or people that buy a car and a year later start saving money for the NEXT car. Stop! Enjoy what you have and make it better.

buy a black VW badge and stick it on the front. That will not affect your warranty.

Or remap, but don't tell anyone. Everytime VW does service on your car, they may delete your map, but that is OK, you can always remap it again, you know.

I want to keep my warranty intact, so this exactly what Ive done! lol
Just looking at a few minor cosmetic mods for now - will be changing the front bulbs etc next.
Dont want to do anything to affect warranty just yet, as car isnt even a year old and the main reason for buying a car so new is so I had a lot of warranty left.

I change nothing externally. Only internal mods. I had 4 years of warranty, and I still have 2 years left. But if something goes bust I'll find the dow to repair it. I don't want to waste 2 more years and wait to have fun that I know I can have with my car. Besides, in 2 years I may be morally tired of E30. I can always make more money to buy another car in 2 years. And if I can't then I will keep on driving my tuned E30 till it blows up or falls apart. Then I'll take the train. At least I would have enjoyed it for a few years. I've no time to waste thinking about insurance.

Take the back seats out, should be quite a bit of weight in them. Also an excuse not to be the taxi when your mates are drinking and your not

Tempted by a remap, but that will obviously lead to a few awkward questions from the dealer if anything goes wrong, so I'm probably best keeping it standard, might have to just get an Ed30 instead or a Mk VI at some point in the near future.
