Called in past my dealer and had a look at the Mk6 gti today.
It was in black with DSG, Monza IIs, leather and camera.
Very, very nice, however, not enough changes to make me want to trade in my Mk5.
Infact, from inside, apart from the new clocks, the car is almost identical.
Gotta say, mine is also in black, and side by side, I think my Mk5 is a better, meaner looking car.
I will be sticking with my Mk5 for sometime. Sorry VW, but I think u screwed up on the GTI Mk6 - the Mk5 is too good!

not having that to be honest. new scirocco > mk6 > mk5

I have to agree. Thought about buying a mk6 but for me it just didn't look all that for the price.
Mk5 for me everytime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They've got a white one at my dealer and I agree that the interior is only slightly better and if anything the seats don't look quite as good.
I don't like the door handles angled downwards or the tiny fiddly heater controls, but I do like the steering wheel (with buttons on, Yay!) I wonder if they've cured the white worm on the wheels?
I'm undecided about the exterior. I prefer my Mk5 at the moment, but I remember prefering the Mk4 when the Mk5 came out (not any more, though ).

ive got one and i like the mk5 as much as you guys ive had 4 but getting back in the mk5 after the mk6 is like getting in a van (interior wise).

Mk VI is a bit of a chav looking car IMHO. Too bling for me, specifically the Ford RS lookalike rectangular foglights, silvered bling steering wheel inserts and dial surrounds, no side body protection and black Monza II wheel inserts. car looks heavy and dated, more like the transition from Mk II to Mk III. Sure it will have good dynamics though and driving experience will probably be an improvement from the MK V.
Not classy and understated like the Mk V but hey, you have to look at it as well as drive it. You pays your money etc.....................................

I've been sent an invite to a test drive weekend at my local steelers for both the MK 6 and Rocco.
Although i've driven the rocco before but i think i may take em up on thier kind offer

Whilst I was at the dealers sorting mine out last week, they had one in.

The dash binnacle looks a bit more purposeful, but STILL not convinced on the front/rear styling.
You can see that they're trying to push along with the Focus RS, with all the angular bits.
And don't get me started on the Rocco (form over function IMHO)

i agree with you to a certain extent, i think the steering wheel is way to bling, the monza's what can i say i think they should have changed the wheels altogether but they do look better in the flesh but i fail to see that by having black inserts makes them chavy and having silver inserts doesn't, most people wouldn't notice only people like us. Im not that convinced about the rear end but wasn't on the mk5 for the 1st year. I think the front looks great and i can't beleve how economical this car is (not been driving round like a granny, mixed driving but not thrashing) Also feels faster than 207bhp. Fantastic car to drive tho Imho
P.s i saw a green RS Focus on the motorway the other day and belive me the golf mk6 gti is as plain as a rich tea biscuit next to one of those
also i remember the Toureg took about 3 years for them to grow on me, so the looks, good imo for a 4x4 but looks is in the eye of the beholder. The drive ermmmmm no thanks! You pays your money etc Toureg 3.0 TDI will always be $hit to drive

Is that Stourbridge VW Dano - good to see another local GTi owner - its my local dealer too but use Wolverhampton VW now since they sent a scrote to pick up my car for some warranty work and he got the Lewis Hamiltons suddenly come on - the mileage range fell by 70 miles for a 15 mile journey  and he scuffed an alloy! Did get the alloy replaced FOC but I've never been back since lol
Looks better in white  better than the black one at Wolvo anyway!

That steering wheel is way too bling....
At least they have improved the spec by adding things to that car that should have been standard on the MKV. Such as MFSW, armrest, rear tinted glass and a better stereo than the base model car (with usb/ipod input).
The car IMHO looks better with Xenon headlights, but how much over £1000
With the Euro/Pound it does look an expensive car and spec for spec makes the Sciroccoo look good value.

Agreed, but the tyre pressure sensor is now an optional extra. Im prettty sure it was standard on mine?

The main problem with all the interior bling for me is reflections. It may look nice, but in the sun it can be quite distracting.
I've found that the 'chrome' trim around the side air vents reflects in the door mirrors, so when you check them, in some conditions, all you can see is a silver rectangle.

Mk V always looks classy with 18" Monzas with the grey inserts
Economy of the GTI is excellent for the overall performance of the car
Agree Touareg will never ever match the driving experience of a GTI but then I didn't buy it for that. Totally different machine and I like the looks, very imposing on the road and being a VW, the build quality is good. Only thing I'm not too fussed about is the over light steering - must check if it's adustable like the GTI.
Time will tell if the Mk VI is viewed as being better than the MK V, but while the like the Mk 2 (arguably the very best) and Mk V were significanlty better than their earlier variants, I personally doubt it. I haven't yet driven the Mk VI but I am old enought o be able to make this comparison

not having that to be honest. new scirocco > mk6 > mk5
I'd modify that to Scirocco R > mk6 > mk5.
Mk5 has problems with sh!tty interior build. All these rattles and bolts not tightened properly enough.... :lipsrsealed:
If Scirocco R were there when I chose my car, I'd take it over E30.
But now, I will not take Scirocco R or Mk6 GTI over my E30. Mk6 is not special enough, and ScR is not different enough.

What I don't like about Mk6 are the split twin pipes and two-color alloys. Too chav for me. GTI was never supposed to stand out in THAT way. Let Japanese cars like CTR do that.
GTI is supposed to be cool and understated, with only minimal bling. Classic asymmetric double-shooter at the back and classic silver or black Monzas, please.

Well the mk6 is even more economical than mk5 and everyone knows its not going to be as big as improvement as the mk5 was over the 4 and its got nothing to do with how old you are to make a comparison, ill tell you the mk6 gti is better than the mk5 gti overall cause i own one  Looks is a totaly personal thing im not saying mk6 is better looking than mk5, like i said not to sure about certain parts myself.
