hello all
Ive had this noise on both gearboxes now.
Replaced the box with a good working one but i still get this noise from the driveshaft area. Ive packed them with grease etc.
Gearbox fluid was changed and has no leaks.

I get this noise when I go over bumps or when the engine judders. Its loud!
I thought it was my brake pads rattling around because when I hold the brake pedal, the noise goes away. I think by holding the brakes the whole front end firms up?
Ive checked the drive shaft bolts. They are tight.
Ive fitted complete new driveshafts too.
whats causing this noise. Is their a fix?
thanks

Sounds like some slack in the diff or output flange spline, most have some slack and make a bit of a muffled clunk when you rock them back 'n forth, perhaps not as loud as this though, when you put the brakes on it will close all the gaps in the drivetrain so no clunk. Are you certain this noise is the same one as you get over bumps and when the engine judders? Does it make the same noise if you rock the other shaft?

yeah thats diff play, had it on an 8v box just as bad, box was trash. my 16v box doesnt have this play, so it aint normal!
On draining the oil that had been in there for 2 months, it was found to metalic silver, not a good sign. After stripping down the box it was found the diff races were completly knackered, plus few chipped teeth on the reverse gear.

Yes when i rock the other shaft i get the same noise at the diff area. Im sure its this noise that I hear.
Cant be arsed to change the box again so think ill leave till this one blows.
The last box had the same noise for years then I lost 1st , 3rd and 5th gear. The selecter lever on the box flapped around.
