I was thinking of buying a Y Reg 2.0L Golf GTi 60,000 miles for around £3,000
It has a full VW service history, only one lady user and is in mint condition...
What is it that is so different about this model then that everyone seems to deem not a true GTi???
Thanks for the advice!!!
-
It lacks power and speed!
-
Ok so it isn't as powerful as the 1.8T Gti but surely it's still a pretty decent car... or is it???
And it looks to be pretty much as powerful as a mk.3 Gti....
-
there great mine will be for sale very soon
-
It will struggle to pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Get a 1.8T or you will regret it - get some insurance quotes you will be suprised
** Edit Or a GT TDI - just for you rhys :afro:
-
I do agree they should never of badged it as a GTi, but I guess they did it more because of the spec of the car rather than how it went. But they are still solid well built cars, and quite easy to live with.

That exactly the problem :D
I used to have a 2.0 8v MK4 before the MK5, get the 1.8T as you will regret the 2.0. Its just sooo gutless.

if you really want speed though rhe mk4 gti isnt the one to go for, but the mk4 is a lovely comfortable car, which looks great inside and out.

Hello bud, just got rid of my 2.0 slow.Had me 1.8t 3 weeks ,love it m8 m8 m8.just hope the 1.8t is reliable as the slow. Had it for 2 years never missed a beat .Not fast 2slow but solid.as !!!!!My insurance on the 1.8t stock is a tenner cheaper
-
Hows that? Its probs just cheaper now as you have more NCB and more years driving as the 1.8T is a higher insurance group than the 2.0 so impossible for it to be cheaper.
-
also the 1.8T does more to the gallon than the 2.0 8v!!!
-
Alan, i have now idea, probs wot you say, didnt wont to argue :smiley:yes 2.0 slow group 11, 1.8t group 14.figure that 1!!!INSURANCE, yes ,do your research!!!!!!!!!

you must of realised the turbo is the way forward then :undecided:

What would be quicker, the 2.0 MK4 or the 2.0 8v MK3?
BTW the 2.0 MK4's are great cars, just not fast. Loved mine.

Nothing in it, the MK3 is lighter so will have a better power to weight ratio, but I doubt you would notice any difference.

and mk3's look poo most of the time

agree

By most of the time do you mean when they've been modded? I reckon they look really good stock, especially the GTI spec.
-
Some modded ones can look nice! Not really a fan of them in standard form.

not always the case, insurance companies go on 3 things normally; insurance group of the car (the biggest factor), how many times the insurance company has had a claim against that model of car (can affect premium alot) and the area you live in.
it could be that your insurance company has had more claims for 2.0L 8v GTi's, than they have for 1.8T GTi's.
i know this as i actually asked an insurance advisor, and was told this. explains how convertible cars are higher to insure, have alot more claims for convertibles being broken into, etc.....

ive got a mk2 2.0 gti and i love it, not that bothered about the speed as i would probably kill myself in a fast car!! My hubbys got a corrade g60 and it scares me when im behind the wheel!!!! im just more into the looks of it really. atleast the turbo will never break!!!!!
If you do want something with even less power, we will be selling a mk4 1.6 soon for £1500.

The turbos never really break on the 1.8T not like escort RS or R5's
