Sorry I can't answer your question madone but I seem to remember 8valvesgood saying something about how to protect the filler neck. PM him as it sounds like he's had a similar experience.  :)

I managed to get a stainless one, ex Autocavan. Not sure that you can get them anymore but have a chat with Stuart at Eurocarparts, I'm sure he'll do you a standard replacement for around ?30

OUCH!! Surely a decent fuel filter would have prevented most of this? or do the older models not have them?

Oooops, maybe my ?30 price tag was a little on the low side. Got my stainless one for ?30 second hand, looks like I got a bargain.

sorry madone i couldn't reply. 8valvesgood here, changed to broadband and lost all my accounts. You can pick fuel filler necks for as little as ?30.

IMO if you can't get hold of a stainless steel MK1 fuel filler neck and if your a DIY man then buy a MKII metal fuel filler neck more common and cheaper. and has heavier gauge material, double the thickness. The downside is you have to cut the pipe and fit two rubber sleeves instead of one to obtain the angle to mate it to the tank, all the fixing holes and positions are the same though.

if you do buy a pipe you need to buy a new rubber sleeve to mate it to the tank and you will need a new rubber gasket to fit at the top as the old one will be long gone. You can reuse the black circle that covers the screws underneath the petrol cap.

I managed to get a new pipe yesterday from GPC. They seem to have loads of VW parts which is very handy. As for the rubbers they seem all ok, but I'll get new ones - better save than sorry  :) thanks.

I don't know what engine is in the "cc" but if its k-jetted it should still have the large pressurised fuel filter the same as all the others.  My GTI being an an older car, 1983 has that filter.

the cc is a gti shaun with kjet.
greenie it originally came with a dark blue pvc hood with cc embossed all over it the same as the seats. (have just bought an original sales leaflet)

they should be the sirocco stlye spoke alloys in white and silver as original. mine were missing (five spoke modern ones on at mo) so recently bought some in black/silver but one is badly curbed so cant fit till i get another one.
