What do you guys think about Mk4 r32 v's MK5 gti have the cash for one which one would you go for?
-
MK5 R32....oh wait, i did
If i had to chose then GTI, im not a huge fan of the mk4 shape!

Usefull...
I would go for the GTI, likely to be more fun and much more tuneable if you want to go down that road

If it was me, I'd factor in the MPG difference and go for the GTi everytime.
But depends how many miles you do. Also the MK4 interior is a little basic. Dont forget you could remap a GTi and still get decent mpg figures when taking it steady and it would be as quick (if not quicker) than the MK4 R32.
Everyone is different and therefore demand different things from their car.

An impossible question for anyone but yourself to answer.
You need to take both of them out for a test drive and decided yourself. I opted for GTI due to running cost (MPG mainly) and I think the GTI looks nicer.

Mk4 R32
-
Thanks for the help guys. Has anyone had both cars and any thoughts. How does the MK4 R32 compare with the MK5 R32 and I mean in terms of driving pleasure not the quality of the interior.
-
de ja vu??

Mk V GTI every time. The Mk IV is the worst incarnation of the Golf to date, even with 3.2 R engine. Mk V more mature and by far the best dynamics. A classic

IMO the MK5 is alot better to drive and more importantly alot easier to live with. MK4 ride was quite harsh at times but gave it a very go-kart like feel, helped by the support of the recaro seats.
MK5 is a little more refined, has nicer interior, and is alot more subtle than the MK4, which has very in your face looks. I was previously considering a MK r32 but realised than brian harvey (ex e-17) has one and drives round with one hand on steering wheel whilst leaning heavily to the left (complete with rude bwoy cap and shades). Quality car though.. slightly ruined by image of a select few.

Yes mate - you're right, apologies to all Mk IV owners, the Mk 3 is the worst :embarassed:
I'd still go for the Mk V in this comparison though.

Mostly a biased opinion, but Mk5, think the shape is much better!

regret is a bitsch, isn't it?
So why don't you trade your E30 for R32 then? Problem solved.

Quite possibly fuel costs and road tax :undecided:

For similair money if you look around I'm sure you can get a Mk5 R32

Interesting question that I can give you an answer because I have a Mk5 Gti and my mate has a Mk4 R32. We have both driven each others cars and travelled around in them on different roads doing various speeds (Cough Cough) and the verdict is this....
Mk5 GTI - Turbo spool is lurvly, plenty of torque, very practical, not too in your face, modern interior, handles great in the dry, superb MPG in driven like a grandad.
R32 - V6 sound is amazing, very comfy Konigs (half leather the best in my opinion), engine keeps on going till the redline, 4 wheel drive better in the wet (if you like kaning in the wet that is), smaller boot than GTI due to 4 wheel drive, demands attention (well it does in pearl blue), if drive like a granded will struggle to get 30MPG.
Taking that all in to account I love my GTI and wouldnt swop it for an Mk4 R32 and I had the choice of buying either before purchasing the GTI. However on the other hand the R32 does just feel that bit more special.
It is a difficult one but the answer is, its up to you, go with your gut feeling.

I've changed my mind now, i want a mk5 GTI
-
if i won alot of money my 1st purchase would be a mk5 r32, it's jus stunning, an the gti is similar in looks etc, i'd go for the gti any day

It is a tough decision to make, as starsky said they both have their pros and cons and performance wise they are pretty well matched, me and paul (starsky) both had milltek exhaust fitted at jbs at the same time and the drive home was mint  both cars look and sound sooo good i dont think you will be dissapointed which ever car you end up with!!
Maybe this vid of mine will sway the decision a little ........
