right i just got the vag cable through the post
so i downloaded the ross tech sofware.. when i tested it in the car and clicked on "OBD-II" button i got an error saying "test complete, car is not iso/abd-ii compatabile! if this car is VW/AUDI/seat/skoda try select > individual controllers" what the hell does this mean?? as i thought the cable i have is a obd-ii???? :undecided:
also i did a full scan and it kept sayin in the top left corner bunch numbers and wait 3, 1, 0.5 seconds etc.... and then going onto the next page and saying terminal and a number kept changin terminal everytime.. is this normal?? it didnt say it is complete or anything and i got no fault code page come up so does that mean its all faultless??
sorry with the quesions im a newbie to this vag com stuff
-
you need to setup the correct COMMS port - look in options when you first open VAG COM
don't forget with the unlicensed version you can't access all the control modules :nerd:
also make sure the ignition is on when running VAG COM
don't click on OBD 2 - click on control modules or whatever the equivalent is
-
iv done the test on comms.. and comm 3 works so i apply it and stuff.. where can i get fully registered one?? my key was out as i was to scared keep ignition on  ill do that too
is there a step by step anywhere on how to do errror checks and the other bits bobs on the software.
-
www.ross-tech.com
-
been through that all alien language to me
so is that correct then comm 3 workin?
says on ros tech website that the software does not need registartion as its biult in :undecided:

it was all alien to me too but we have to start somewhere
does it work in the car??
registration is built into the lead- so if you have a genuine lead it will unlock all the features
-
yep works in the car gave it a auto-scan but no idea if it is right or not no faults came up as iv got a bit of temp prob which has come back it went ok for a few days after i changed the temp sender so i was expecting a fault code to help me out :undecided:
do you a get like a report after a scan or is it just a case of if u have a fault it tells you otherwise it goes back to normal screen in auto-scan option
-
You can't perform a full auto-scan using the shareware version - you have to select a control module and scan this module only, then do more modules if you so wish one at a time...
e.g. you select "engine" let it connect to that control module, and then you can scan for faults within that module. You then have to quit back to the main screen and select a different control module etc...
-
right i have found that it aint workin at all.. i try clicking on a control module and i get a error!
and whenever i go into option find the right port thats working and click save i go into the about option and it tell sme that i still need to test this on a car! and no seriel number nothing is on there .. i have looks around ross-tech and is should say shareware on the about page but it dont! i have tried all the different downloads available and just cant get my head around it
can someone please point me in the right direction as iv spent near enough 4 hours on this bloody ross tech
im running it on vista too! :embarassed:
-
I have the full version and it wont work on vista
I had the same problem as you got to get it work on xp.i d to go to control pannel, systems device manager, ports and select port 1.
then had to get back into vag com and select com 1
temp problems may show under module 1 engine, then go to fault codes it will show you what you looking for
good luck
-
if you have the ebay lead you need to set it up through your computer,
cant remember how to do it off the top of my head..
do a search..
it started by right clicking on /"my computer" then selecting manage

Ah yes, you need to do some wizardry in here before it will work - i'm assuming you bought a USB lead yes?
I think its the bottom one your after, right-click, properties, advanced and then you need to select one that does not say "in use" or something, and set it to be "COM1" (or 2 or 3 or 4) depending what it says and then you need to always slect the same one in VAGCOM but should never need to set it up through the device manager again as windows will keep its settings.
I got an installation MS Word file with my lead, albeit it was badly translated from some language or another! I'm at work now, but i can post it on here for you (and reference for anyone else?) when i get home...
-
yep i brought usb lead of ebay.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=230335003811 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=230335003811) yh if you can post it on here that would be good... right i connected the lead to one of my usb ports and it comes up as com 6 and goes up to COM 9  and on the VAG option monu only goes up to COM 4????????? :undecided:
-
Yeah thats what i was trying to (but admit it wasn't very clear) explain above - you have to tell windows that that port is COM1,2,3 or 4 for it to work with VAGCOM. I'll dig the destuctions out when i get home for ya fella
-
k cheers waffs
-
This is how to do it on xp, I think its pretty much the same on vista :undecided:
It told you how to change which com the lead was on in windows, buy going to control panel - system - device manager - ports, and then changing the port the vag com lead is connected to to com 2, by right clicking the lead goto - properties - port settings - advanced settings - then change the port to com 2 and ok.
Then try it in vag-com on com 2
-
Yeah it is, mine was on vista. Ooooh! whilst i remember, i had to go onto the ebay/dummy lead website and download the latest drivers for Vista - will never work without these! Again i shall dump the document on here for you, just follow it though like i did.
Having said all that mine now "works" but seems to like to crash vagcom all the time
-
any chance you dumping the documents waffs??
i did all the bits and bobs people said to do.. like set to run as administrator, xp s2, change COM so will give it a shot tomorow to see if it works!!

Yes mate, sorry for the delay!!
VAG-COM 409.1 Cable Driver and Software Installation Guider
Please note the driver comes with the cable is not suitable for windows vista, but you may download the driver from this link:
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
If you use the xp/2003/2000 then please use the following guide:
1. Put the DRIVER CD-ROM into CD-ROM on your PC
2. Plug the cable on USB port, then the driver will be installed.
3. Go to: control panel /hardware/ device manager/ ports to check the number of the 'USB to serial' port,
If it shows port number is not from COM1 to COM4, please click right key of mouse and choose 'properties',
then choose 'port setting' then 'advances', and change the com number to COM port to any one of COM1 to COM4 from the 'Com port number', which depends on which one is not 'in use'.
4. Install (reinstall) the VAG-COM 409.1 software
5. Plug the cable to a car
6. Plug the USB side to PC
7. Turn the ignition on
8. Run the VAGCOM
9. Choose the number of com port same as the 'USB to serial', which found from device manager.
Please note the software comes with the cable is download version, you may have to register the software to use the full functions. Also the 409.1 version is not suitable for ‘CAN-BUS’

did a scan and neva found a fault code so not 100% on what is worng with my car
-
So just to confirm, your runs ok and doesnt crash in Vista? I assume it must be to do with running it in XP compatability mode?
-
