Title: onboard computer for mpg, etc
Post by: Dempsey on 27 May 2009, 00:11
hi, just a quick question here, i did search on here and google, but to no avail.
do all mk4 1.8T GTi's come with an onboard computer?
or is it only after a certain year?
reason im asking is im going to look at a 1999 T plate GTi on friday, and he says it has one, but when looking other 99 T plates, they dont seem to have them on the clocks?
can anyone clear this up for me?

up until 2000 I think they were optional but after that the half display came as standard fitment

Mine doesn't have the display and it's a T plater (99) but I have seen other T platers with them

right ok, so im guessing your talking about the half display in the centre of clocks? so after 2000, they all came with this display?
so what about previous to 2000?
did they come with a trip computer to tell you mpg, etc at all?
possibly not in that particular display?

Yeah, but as Wes said it was in the little LCD display in the bottom left window (the one used for time if the car has the larger screen in the middle)

Just to add, I had a 98 "S" plate back in 2002 and mine had the computer in the bottom of the rev counter. I thought they were standard on the Turbo at least...

trip is taken care of by the same readout as the mileage if you don't have the half display in the middle.

No readout for MPG if you don't have the centre display though I'm afraid

As said in my post above, my "S" plate didn't have the half screen that my "03" does, but still had the full computer but its shown in the rev counter display...

That's wrong. My 98 TDI had MPG readout on the little screen.

Dempsey: Look at the car if it doesn't have the red bit in the middle, press the buttons on the end of the right hand stalk and see if anything changes.
