hi guys does any body have any exprience onto a 1.8t AUM. The turbo ive got on it at the moment, dont kick in till about 4000 rpm so was gonna go for a upgrade (Garrett or ko4 off ebay risky i no) gonna check the part numbers because the guy i brought it off said turbo blew and he dont no wat they replaced the turbo with
is it a hard job
is it worth
any other parts i will need
-
Aren't all mk4 turbos Garrett :undecided:
s yours standard? if it is go for a remap should see 210bhp from it.
KO4 is pricey your need a few other parts, have a search or check out Ashmonds build thread for the extra parts needed
-
no they are Borg Warner (KKK) Steve
Garrett are OEM eqipment for most of the old skool Ford turbo hatches and can generally handle a fair bit of power. IMO they never lasted very long though
-
oh, I think the diesels are Garrett :undecided: I have been wrong before tho
-
yeah the diesels are garrett, petrol are borg warner
to the OP - if it doesn't spool till 4k it must be something pretty big.. or broken. I'd get it looked over by someone who knows what they're doing before making any rash decisions about turbo replacements.

i was looking at a garret gr28rs but think ill book it into a specilist. then get r tech to remap it cheers for reply
-
to get the gt28rs on and to use it to its full potential you would need alot of work, i say go for it
-
wa gonna get the garret myself but didnt in the end i have the k04 :) but would deffinately get a garret there awsome turbos
-
sound nice
what will i need , do you know if the bolt straight on , obviusly full exhaust would show more gain.
Will i need bigger injectors and fuel pump?
at th mo i have smoothed air box pipercoss filter, forge 007p N249 bypass.
anyone know what a n75 does how i would benifit from a nj75
-
Same as Topher if it doesn't kick in till 4k you're looking at a T4 and they are mahoosive turbos lol
Something is defo wrong somewhere, maybe actuator?

The only bolt on is a gt28rs eliminator kit, you will need bosch 440 or genesis 550 injectors, 4 bar fuel pressure regulator, front mount intercooler as the standard intercooler cant handle to extra charge pressure and will pop open and suffer majot heat soak. You will need a full exhaust, preferably turbo back, you can use thre standard box but its advised to get a cold air intake, you will need the green spring for the 007p for the valve to hold the increased pressure. Remap is needed obviously and in my experience you will need to change all the boost hoses to handle the pressure as they will bulge on the standard
this is just to start lol im in the middle of doing all this, worth it though

oodoo what injectors d you go for? and where you get them from?
-
Yes simple answer is they are good Turbo's
As the guy says 2 posts above if you upgrade then you need to do other things to make the most of it and to keep the thing running without any probs.
Dont just get one and bolt it on your asking for trouble.

From my cosworth days, the garretts are ace turbos, a standard cosworth T3 will run at stage one tune (270=280bhp) all day long, maybe due to the cosworth engine design, but perfect for a quick MK4, it's just the fabricating manifolds etc etc that will get expensive.

Genesis 550 from backdraft but there like rocking horse to get hold of
