Been using this forum for some time... mostly using the "search" function rather than posting!
Basically, my Mk2 I bought at Christmas hasnt been started since driving it home. Been at Uni etc.
I expected the battery to be dead; however, when I try and jump start it with the Mk4, the engine just turns weakly.
As another approach, I jump started my Mk3 which was also dead and then tried jumpstarting the Mk2 again. This time the Mk2 managed to stop the Mk3 engine making both dead. Soooo much effort.
Anyway, I need to drive the Mk2 to the garage just up the road tonight for a service tomorrow. I have the Mk3 running outside in an attempt to fully charge its battery.
The main question is! Can I take the battery out of my N reg 1.4 Mk3 and place it within the H Reg 1.8 GTI Mk2?
Any other suggestions welcome, really need a quick fix.
Thanks.

yeh you can probably just swop the battery out. if its dead it wont hold charge at all.

Thanks for the quick response.
Hmmm. So I believe the Mk2 battery is completely dead. Just hoping that the Mk3 is charging ok now.
Can any one see any issues of just swapping the battery over?

None other than it physically not fitting.

Batteries have different starter rating, so it probably will start, however if it was a diesel it may be a different story.
Shouldnt be a problem tho.
Good luck

Charched the battery and swapped them over, with no success. Used the Mk4.. again.. to jump start and the engine turned over well.. but it still hasnt started.
Reckon after all that hassle in the dark, it may just be that all the petrol has evaporated.
Got a great 20min walk at 7.30 tomorrow, to get a new battery and some petrol. Good times. Should have probably checked that it started before spending hours hovering the inside.
Wrote a newbie post with pics of my Mk3 and stuff ages ago, but it all got deleted when the forum went down.. will post another when the Mk2 is looking tidy, think removing the 6x9's will be the first job! Really nice 16v, 3dr, Atlas Grey for only £1k.
Thanks for the help.
