Still looking, any idea's where else too look, searched ebay, pistonheads, autotrader, here, mk5golfgti.co.uk to the point where it's all burnt into my retina's with no luck, just wondering if i've missed somewhere where that perfect golf could be lurking?
Keep your eye out for me for a well specced golf please
Basic spec i'm looking for is: 3dr in white/black/red/grey (preference in that order) with xenons and monza 2's, and ideally leather. Will consider cloth if the spec is high. Max budget £12k so realistically 05/55 reg.
Quick question please
Is there only one shade of red? Some look pink others look  also are black one's metallic? Quite fancy a flat colour this time, mettalic show's all the marks you see
Cheers, Sam

Just had a quick look on Autotrader - there's none out there with Xenons, and they really seem to have rocketed up in price.... I could make a tidy profit on mine :D
Keep looking is the only advice, you'll find a gem at some point believe me!

Black 5dr 54 plate with 17s" - but fully loaded
God thats expensive really, but a nice example

Your MK4 looks quite modified, qhy do you want Monza IIs?
Every set of Monza II's I saw were in need of a good refurb due to corrosion, so I settled for the 17s.
I have to say, they're a lot comfier and the car is faster on them. Plus they're flat silver so they don't corrode...great for winter wheels ;)
-
Cheers for looking mate, see what I mean about the prices!
Has too be 3 door this time, got a 5 door now so want a change! if it was a 3 door i'd already have it outside my house
Quite hard to gauge where the market is going, from what i've seen the expensive one's still aren't selling so either the buyers know there are bargins to be had or the sellers are trying it on. I'm just worried the market will pick up to a point where I can't afford a spec I like, if thats the case I would have to consider an audi a3 s-line i suppose
There was an 06 fully loaded on pistonheads and he was trying for £14k!

Good point and in all fairness they aren't essential, but it will remain standard on the outside for a while so don't want to be running round on some wheels which don't do the car any justice, no offense to all you 17 users... BBS CH's will be replacing whatever it's got when funds permit.

There's only one shade of red that I've seen, are you talking about seeing more than one shade of red in the flesh or in pics? My profile pic looks dayglo orange LOL but in reality is a strong red. It's to do with the camera and the light conditions. Mine was taken with an iPhone but I'll pop up one or two others taken by a proper camera (different wheels then though), but you'll get the idea.

One word of warning if you are looking for a flat colour is that they seem to be much more prone to chip marks than metallics. IIRC metallics have a really hard clearcoat over the paint whereas the solid colours have the clearcoat and pigment combined and doesn't seem as hardy.
If you've got your heart set on a colour then its not worth changing your mind about it because of this but its worth bareing in mind when you go to look at cars.

Yep...I'm very happy with my 17s
I was initially disappointed when I found out the car I was buying didnt have 18s, now I am glad. I have yet to see a set of Monza 18s on a second hand Golf that are anything but shoddy... and I think they are a bit too big for the car. But thats personal opinion :)

What they are up for and what they go for are two different things... I overpriced my previous car as I thought it was worth more than it was, most are doing the same. I would say be patient, it took me nearly 18 months to find my previous car as I wanted a definitive spec!
-
stick with it matey, as you know I got a cracking motor / deal last week after 3 months of daily checking autotrader / Pistonheads / VW Dealers / Local rags / Ebay etc. I nearly missed it as well because I checked on the morning and the Ad was placed in the afternoon.
Stick with it, you will find one, just check daily, and dont settle for basic spec, I nearly did though.

Basic spec MAY not be an issue imho - at least most of it can be retrofitted (Highline's a bit more complicated!)
What I have noticed is that the mk5 prices have gone UP. Might come down towards Autumn. After speaking with some VW peeps about the MK6, it hasn't been as popular as the 5....yet.
A lot have been bought on spec without even trying it.
Therefore decent low miles 05/55 are becoming (a) rarer and (b) expensive. Basic spec is out there, but you'll pay even more for the higher spec car.
Only saying this, as I, like many others have been scouring day after day for the "right one"....... personally not bothered about the leather (doesn't seem as "quality" as the Audi stuff), nor satnav (going to retro something better anyway).
I'll be looking at lux and winter pack - they're pretty cheap from VW anyway. Highline not an issue - got it in my Audi and well, it's fun for the 1st month, then well, it gets boring.
So, whilst you look for the dream car, price up how much the extra bits would cost - maybe keep leather and 18" as must haves, but the rest as extras.....
Just my 2p - depends on how quickly you want a car. The longer you wait, the more miles get put on etc.....
Dan :)

Cheers for all the replies.
Certainly some valid points made.
The main issue is my loan. It has a 60 day breathing preiod where I don't pay. This is the time scale I have allowed myself to get a new car and also sell my old one. This let's me buy the new one then sell without losing a veichle which I can't afford to do as the misses need's it to work and take my daughter to nursery etc.
I have had some interest in my car already but not really pushing it as I don't want to mess potential buyers around by making them wait out for X amount of days/weeks.
Any idea how much and how easy xenons would be too retro? I realise I would still need the winter pack for the headlight washers.
My spec is reasonably flexible to be honest, I just haven't seen a car with the right spec/miles/age/price yet that suit's me.
Cheers, Sam

Perhaps I would do well to put mine on the market, sounds like a few buyers out there may be interested in such a high spec, low miler....hmmm....
...but .....what would i replace her with? ... I cant afford to upgrade...,errm...I would just have to go out and get another mark 5 gti...without, highline, lux, winter, pescaras, new asymetrics, colour-coding, milltek, sunroof, leather, satnav, dsg arm rest, cd player, full VWSH.....
-
I paid peanuts for mine, I'd probably make a 2-3k clear profit right now!
But I wouldnt have a car, and I quite like it :D

Totally disagree there, I think you should sell it to me and buy an R32
Forgot to mention mileage isn't an issue to me. Anything up to about 65k considered if the price is right, I only do 3k a year so it would soon level out.

hi,
Just seen one on pistonheads, black 05 reg. Be quick - its in Northumberland £10,750.
-
No leather or xenons  , looks like a tidy car though
-
Oh yes I forgot to mention xenons!!! I have them too ! :-)) but can't afford anymore money out right now, would love a good r32 but for example a local complete twit stealer want £16.5k for an 06 dsg !!!
-
Thankfully for me, my GTI is too old, wrong spec and too many doors.
I say thankfully as my wife would murder me if I was to sell it!!!
Only thought I'd mention it as I'm fairly local to you Sam, and I can't see anything much worthwhile up for sale at the moment either. You may need to hang in there and see if many mk5'ers start moving up to mk6s and which will put a few more decent ones on the market.
Mind you with the price of a mk6 I think the majority of mk6 GTI people will be company car drivers with a lease contract.
