i have had my 1.8t for a couple of weeks now and i am beginning to wonder if its down on power.
after driving my mk3 16v for a while then jumping into the 1.8t, it just dont seem any more powerful.. maybe it needs to be driven differently. my mk3 would go well but you had to get the revs up to get it to move. but the 1.8t seems to have plenty low down grunt but then when the revs are up theres not much pull..
i know the 16v and 1.8t are both 150bhp standard but they both feel so different.
i am new to turbo charged cars so that may have something to do with it.????...
-
they're not exactly what you'd call a "rapid" car standard so don't worry mate, there's probably nothing wrong with it
-
If you're really bothered, get a fault code reader or something, to see if there's any faults.
-
1.8Ts are just dosile cars really, if it had that power without the turbo, it'd go like a rocket like my Mk2 GTi did.
-
Or speak to Nick at R-Tech and get it booked in for a remap
-
yeah bog standard the Turbo's dont exactly leave you feeling liek your in a turbo car, once Nick and Ben give you a stage 1  that all changes really shifts and got more pull through out the rev range, well worth while!!

already done that,, seems pretty healthy in that respect.. its not running lumpy either..
needs a bigger turbo and remap me thinks...

i have been left wondering, if its worth just getting a remap, or saving my pennies and getting a ko3s first before hand?.

All depends what you want, if your lookign for bigger power in the long run then mabe gettign a ko3s would be worth while but the map itself will be the biggest change over changing the turbo you will be smiling trust me i was

remap will improve things but the KO3 can only handle and maintain so much boost. a KO3s will help help maintain the power and boost further up the rev range. Ivor's car is a very good example of an KO3s AGU :afro:

just the remap and turbo will do for me for the time being. unless i can find a close to oem (looking and sounding) exhaust then i wont bother with a wooo shiney one..
i know miltek are a good brand but unless its quiet then i dont want it..
lets just say i want a wolf in sheeps clothing.

good answer.
my answer is, im just not spending that kind on a bit of pipe.
-
well if you're not prepared to put the work and money into it stop moaning about the Golf not having any power

Well said that man !

gains can be had other ways, you dont have to go the £300 quid route to get an extra 5bhp from a shiney pipe, and it doesnt have to be stainless steel either. yes, stainless is better, but not the expense i want to pay at the moment.
maybe upgrading the turbo, remap and a Diy decat.
and im not moaning either, just gauging the fact that my 16v seemed to have more grunt.

No
I can moan all I like about it, as if it had the rated BHP without the turbo, it wouldn't be so dosile. It's my car and I'll moan about it all I like and spend nothing on it if I so wish not to.

R-Tech do some pretty good deals on remaps for the 1.8T and you will get a discount for being on the forum. For a few hundred quid to release the potential of the 1.8T it really isn't that much.

but then you are limited with tunability, the point i was getting at is, for the cost of decent exhaust outweighs the benifits..
-
get it remapped then, £200 and you'll have a 190bhp ish Golf
