my car's running abit rough at idle, strangely this seems to have got slightly worse (or certainly not improved) since cleaning TB.
it doesn't stall but every few seconds seems to slightly splutter/misfire.
also at low revs (800-1200rpm) in 5th it seems to judder a bit.
i think these are probably related.
what's the most likely cause do you think?
TB is clean
i think relays are ok
plugs + air filter not too old

my car suffers from the same splutter at idle, no idea what it is though :undecided:
-
mine too!!
was wondering if it was to do with this vac pipe/cranksensor.etc... prob :)
-
could well be vac pipe as mines split
-
is yours lackiing power aswell with it??
ive ruled vaxc pipes out on mine so next it tb butterfly...

unfortunately that's how the 8valvers were made.

no, not the usual lack of balls, sometimes ya put your foot down and it starts back firing and tries to stop until ya lift off, lol
then ya have to tease the throttle till it clears itself!!
:D
love it...

what hoses need checking?

Why are you driving at 1200rpm anyways? Surely all cars would. I dont drive bellow 2000rpm.
I change down at that point.
In all honesty a gti should be driven at 4k plus. lol. But thats just my opinion.
The idle speed is 900rpm, and that doesnt have enough power to move the car, hence it stalls at that speed when u lift the clutch up. So what do you expect at 1200rpm in !!!5th!!! gear!
Change down to 3rd, maybe 2nd, and put ur right foot onto the carpet. lol

Yes. lol.
Point is the gearbox in a gti isnt made so that u cruise around in 5th, you cruise around in 3rd. On a motorway at 70 you only use fifth for mpg wise, you could easily use 4th.
Driving a car at low revs like that is only guna cause problems..... Dont see me making "my car dont run right" threads :P

simple solution to this boys:)
mine was the same use to judder.:)
a nice set of new spark plugs (decent ones)
and a nice set of HT leads (once again decent ones, around £40)
this should in fairness sort it:)
if not its beyond me:)

similar issue here lads, just struggles at idle. also on start up warm or cold it sometimes revs high 1600rpm ish. sometimes absolutely fine, never stalls but comes close to it.
ive done preety much everythng to resolve it but with no joy,
parts i have changed, throttle body (recon), temp sensor, crankshaft sensor, full service, all the usual relays, coilpack, dizzy, airmass sensor, bla bla bla the list goes on! to much to list! i didnt just change these bits due to the idle issue but down to poor running. had it plugged into vag-com various times with no errors popping up!
it runs sweet as a nut now, pulls well, good mpg but still idles all over the place. given up to be honest, would like to sort it but no idea how! only ever issue i see it causing is if i go to sell her at some point!
