This isnt really a problem but more of a i was just wondering,my mk2 16v was registered in 1990 is G reg and is a big bumper model but!
it dosnt have the side skirts it has the black vinyl strips and the fatter side mouldings was there a a cross over period on the 90 G reg ones as i thought all the 1990 big bumper models came with the side skirts and the thinner mouldings?
-
Hi im not sure about a change over? my car is a 1989 16v it has big bumpers but only because some one has put them on do the front wheel arches reach the bottom of bumper?
-
Yes they do and it has electric windows and the 90 spec dials and all the other 90 spec trim I'm pretty sure the car came from vw this way I'm just intrigued to know why it dosnt have the side skirts and the smaller 90 spec side trim
-
Do you have any pics of it?
-
OK well looking at my car today the arches cant be 90 spec ones because obviously the front quarter rubbing strip is attached to the arch and as i said its the fatter type, also the front arches go to the bottom of the bumper but not to the bottom of the spiltter so im thinking now it dosnt have a 90 spec kit at all and maybe someone put the bumpers on when the car was new,its was first registered in feb 1990 so
i guess not all the 1990 mk2's had the 90 spec kit
-
Hi if you look up under the front bumper on my car you can still see the clips/holes from where it had the small bumper splitter on it.
-
Where is the hazard switch?
-
On the dash panel, there's 3 switches together, fog light, heated window and hazzards
-
In that case your car should have small bumpers fitted as it is a ce1 electrics car
-
In which case vw must of bought in 90 spec some time in the 90's rather than all the 1990 cars being 90 spec?! I think that's answers the question cheers!
-
yeah '90 spec' is missleading as you can get late regged pre-90 models on a G plate. '90 spec' actually started in 89, thats when the 1st 90spec Jettas rolled off the production line :)
-
i had a late 89 car that was 90 spec, suppose a lot of it depends on the actual build date of the car
-
Just sold my 89/G 16v which was registered in Nov 89 but was proper big bumper with the hazard switch on steering column, so your car is from the cross over period. Built in the summer of 89 probably and sat in dealer stock for a while. If it has an odd colour or perhaps no power steering it might not have sold.
-
Yeh it dosnt have power steering and it's White,so is it at all possible it had the bumpers but not the rest of the kit from new or has some1 at some stage put big bumpers on it
-
I would say someone has put the bumpers on at a later date
-
as already said, hazard switch on dash = CE1, which in turn = pre-90 spec car.
