Have a 2002 tdi and wouldnt mind knowing if I can get some software or anything for the car to tell me how many miles I have left until I run out of fuel rather than guessin? I know its simple...soon as lite comes on - fuel the flippin car up - but sometimes not always that easy.... I know some golfs do it and my old Audi S3 did which was handy...Ta

You can program the cluster to enable this feature. Read a few of the threads below with the name VAG TACHO in the titile and all will be revealed.

How much that gonna set me back?

Depends if you have the right clocks first. Do a bit of earching on here for Miles To Empty. All been covered before.

on an 02 the clocks will be fine - both Bosch and VDO clocks can have MTE enabled :nerd:

anyone got a how to for this? I have vag commander that can read and write eeprom but I don't know what I should be changing??
-
even with miles till empty enabled the car is still going to guess as it works it out using the average MPG, which can so easily change.
Given that the light comes on when you've got 8l left (can be changed, and it's more for the V6) you'll have about 1 1/2 gallons of fuel left. You need to keep in mind, that that last 8l is going to contain all the dregs at the bottom of the tank (which the filter will filter out) but a diesel engine isn't the same as a petrol (obvioulsy) as in if you run out you can't just walk to the petrol station and put more in the tank, and empty diesel engine needs to be purged of any air that's been drawn in when the tank went dry.
