So, time to be honest.
What do you guys do that borders sadness......
Some example....
1. I have a habit of wiping off any carbon from my exhausts.........every time I have driven the car!
2. I lift the kids up and into the car, so they dont put their feet on the bottom of the door sils.....

I HAVE to have a clean windscreen. Even a fly splat sends the windscreen wipers and washers into a giddy fit. I must go though half the UK stock of screenwash on my own. :embarassed:
-
I cant use the washers and wipers, it leaves that awful dirty patch at the top! Ill go for as long as possible until i have to do that :embarassed:

I try never to use rear wiper. I prefer "battle dirt" on the back window, which makes it even less see-through.
Also, I very seldom clean my car from outside (on inside it is clean). Again, I justify this behavior by calling dirt - "battle dirt". :lipsrsealed:
-
Carry a paint brush in the car to dust the instruments and surfaces! :embarassed:
-
I always turn off the engine with clutch pedal depressed.
-
I wash the exterior as soon as it gets dusty
I won a professional detail on 'the other' forum so it will be looking spanking soon

I do exacty the same!
lol
In fact, in my old car, the screenwash was so old it was going stale! lol
-
I'm the same with the screen! I will be squinting till I am blind until I wash that windscreen!
Car has to be clean 24/7, even if its dusty it will get a clean.
-
I took the whole air vent out just to get 1 CRUM out,
spirit level on the new number plates (also sent back one once bcoz the first letter was a tad wonky!) AND every month I proper clean my alloys.......

A bit of a mental disease I thinkl!
-
I like to have clean alloys
Lift the 4 year old into the car to avoid dirty foot marks
rarely use the rear screen wipe
depress the clutch on startup
polish after each wash
keep the windscreen clean with Klasse all in one - acts like rainoff
clean the exhaust tips
apart from that, just a regular car user with a regular car
-
I clean the insides of the wheels with every wash,
Wipe the tips of the exhaust (though i found recently putting jetseal on them means the build up is much less)
Once the car has been washed and dried its not unheard of that i will stop 5 mins down the road on the next outing to wipe the drips that have come out of the door mirrors.
Have a duster and microfibre for internal cleaning in the storage by the steering wheel
Check for and remove bird crap everytime i get home from work
Towel dry the honeycombe grill after washing (each hole)
Wax at least once a month
probably loads more too... just cant think of others,
R

Taking the car for a spin is part of my cleaning/drying process! Dry the car, then go for a quick blast - anything up to 40mph is fine, come back and finish off the bits that have dripped out. Especially important to do this when you are going to wax/polish :)
Love taking the alloys off to clean them properly - but only do this maybe twice a year.
Tireshine. I have to use tireshine :D

Is that the wife's toothbrush, Willzee?

Lol I've been to the dealers three times so far - all just to get screenwash!
The first time I bought the stuff, I completely forgot to dilute it so stuck in three bottles' worth in one go! Too used to using ready-mixed stuff.
-
I don't use the rear wiper due to the splashback from the spoiler, the constant run annoys the hell out of me and I hate the way the boot looks after a squirt with the washer.
I don't like using the front washers wither, but thats because I have xenons and the light washers soak the whole car.
-
My tooth brush has plenty of life left in it still, just look at my teeth

I always turn off the engine with clutch pedal depressed.
.............i always start the car this way.
-
ok, not gti specific, but any car I have I have to get a replica scale model of it. I have 6 to date and waiting for the gti as only had gti 2 weeks.
Doesn't stop there, they have to be the same colour as my latest wheels. Got very lucky with most regards colours but had to buy some audi blue "Moro blue" paint to match my last car, a tt.
Extra sad bit is I keep on a book shelf in our lounge with a photo albulm of the original cars.
How sad am I? Also can't wait for the black I (scale model) to arrive anyday!!!!!!

I only mentioned it once in this thread

I always push the button on my handbrake in when I pull it up, I hate the sound of the the handbrake clicking when it's just pulled straight up!

Ive always done that with any car Ive owned.
-
x2 , was told it damaged the handbrake if you didnt? not sure how true that is though

Don't think it matters. On some cars the hand brake can fail if you don't pull it up on the ratchet. Clio's I think

Exactly, I wouldn't call it obsession, Pretty much everyone does that.
Its like saying that I turn the steering wheel to go around corners.
-
you can wear out the ratchet spring if you don't push in the button when pulling up the handbrake..... aparently.
but at the same time u have to measure how many clicks till it's tight. more than 3 clicks and it needs tightening
-
My obsession includes walking away from the car and looking back at it at least twice. Sometimes just to look at it and sometimes I wonder if I have left quite enough space between my car and the people carrier next to it, and whether it was foolish to put it there even though its the only space left.
Sometimes I think i'm perfectly normal.
-
i hate a dusty dashboard especially around the steering wheel housing, and HATE dirt on the footwell mats
-
When in a public carpark, I constantly think and worry about the car.
Im glad when I get back to it.
-
It can wear out the quadrant riping then handbrake up, I've replaced some in the past and those ones have been plastic  rather than metal .
-
I have to have the volume knob on the stereo at the 'proper' upright position. It's quite sad.

ROFL! I do that!
I would have much preferred a seperate on/off switch!
I also look at the reflection of my car whenever I drive past a black car, or a car with decent reflection ;)
-
Drive past a glass shop front, and just have to drive by ultra slow :lipsrsealed:
-
^^^^sorry to hajack thread but i just got to say your car looks good now with black wheels, sets it off  ive seen pics on other forums when you first had black carbon bits done, not normaly a fan of black wheels but when it done right as you have looks good
-
Brush down mats after every trip. Carry chamois in boot for damp mornings.I could go on!!
-
Starlingadey.......... I think you and I could be cut from the same cloth..............
-
Oh dear...really? Do you have kids? Mine are now embarrassed by my obsession to the point of mocking me!!
