Title: roadside cover - any recommendations?
Post by: bobotheclown on 21 May 2009, 22:13
Ok maybe I should post this in the mk2 section as they might have had more experience with breakdown companies

Seriously, am thinking of getting it but not sure which one to go for? Any recommendations?

The AA carried and changed a coil pack on my mk4 1.8T....  :undecided:  On that basis they're alright...

i use adrian flux breakdown regularly, purchased alongside my insurance so don't know if they do it seperate or not. was only about 50-60 for the year, includes home start and full european cover unlike many others. called them out at least 4-5 times.

it's only worth it if your car is actually going to break down though. otherwise it's a waste.

I go between RAC and AA every year!

Reason being, both have better offers for new members, so every year I switch to the other and become a 'new' member, hence get the discounted rate ;)

At the moment Im with the AA. I wouldnt be without breakdown cover, even though my car is a '08' plate, since I have kids and I would hate to be broken down with both my young kids in the car etc.

AA or RAC for independent breakdown cover if you don't have VW Assist (who incidently use the RAC). Your insurance company may also give you a quote but unlikely to be as competitive as a new AA/RAC mambership.

Try this link for a cheap option

Exact0h, ive done the same for the past 4/5 years i think. You've gotta make them earn their money i say and play them against each other when getting quotes.

Might be worth having a look at Quidco to see if any of them have a cash back deal.

Its a really good site, got £20 cash back for signing up to sky broadband and phone.  I think they do some breakdown stuff too as well as most other utilities

I've never bothered going direct, I find its better to find a bank account that offers this "free" - I also get mobile phone insurace and other perks for less than £10 a month in my Barclays current account.
