i'm not bored of it (yet) and its unlikely i'll go back to petrol - why would I when there's only like 3p per litre difference and i can cover more than a 1/3 distance per tank

Rhys,

So if to times your 3p by how many liters in a tank then how much do you actually save compared to a petrol.

Surely your only gonna make big savings if on the road all the time as against driving a few miles to work each day, plus doesn't diesal have higher servicing costs?

Rhys,

So if to times your 3p by how many liters in a tank then how much do you actually save compared to a petrol.

Surely your only gonna make big savings if on the road all the time as against driving a few miles to work each day, plus doesn't diesal have higher servicing costs?

not sure to be honest but at the moment it only costs about £1.50 per tank to fill.  Thats based on prices here - 98.9p for petrol and 1.01.9 for diesel

so 3p x 55 litres to the tank = £1.65 more expensive to fill

on average i do 500miles before the warning light comes on

Based on average tank for a 1.8T say 375miles (someone correct me if this is way out)

so i cover approx 125 miles more per tank; i fill up at least twice a month as i cover 1000 miles per month.  To cover the same distance in a petrol i'd have to fill up 3 times (have some left over)

The way i see it, every 6 weeks i'd save a tankful or approx £55 compared to petrol but then i covered 15,000 miles between MOT's last year!!

I've never worked out how diesels have higher servicing costs as they are on the same regime as petrol i.e 10K for oil change (on T&D), wear and tear items are pretty much the same - it only gets significantly different when it comes to replacement clutches etc

Also we don't have coil packs or spark plugs to replace

Best person to ask about cost saving would be Steve_PD - he's done 32K in one year!!
