This day was going to come sooner or later. Was at a set of lights which are at roundabout of J6 of the M25. Lights go green and everyone starts moving, out of no ware and for reasons still unknown to me the Focus infront decided to do a full on emergency stop for no apparent reason as the traffic infront of him is still moving fine. I go slamming into the back of him with little time to react (doing approx 10 - 12mph on impact). He then decides to floor it off and head onto the M25. I can only imagine he had no insurance as despite his twitish decision to perform an emergency stop for no reason I was the one that went into the back of him, surely the blame is on me?
Anyway, this is the damage that was done, it doesn't look too bad but its going to need new front bumper, new grille and new VW badge (which cookiemonster less than a month kindly sprayed for me :() Iv also removed the grille and seen that its pushed the middle bit behind the grille back a tad and has kissed my intercooler and bent the fins a little (luckily not split and no other damage from the looks). Im a bit worried that this has been pushed out of place and not sprung back to its original shape meaning the new bumper wont line up properly, can any confirm if it looks like its at a funny angle? It had also popped the light out which was pushed back in. So sad :( but could have been so much worse so got to look on the bright side.

is this a " CCTV'd junction ?
if not did you get the REG of this focus that " rolled " back into you then TOOK off :lipsrsealed:
on a serious and positive note mate, could have been a lot worse including losing ya ncb.
-
lol I don't think it is, In fact im pretty sure it isnt.
I totally agree and everyone in the office today came to the conclusion that it was a bit of a blessing in disguise as he has some bad damage to the back of his bumper. NCP is safe, for now lol.
-
gutting for you mate,
Have you been to the local police station to fill in a self reporting form?
Chuff, it shouldn't really matter if he did go into the back, because by theother driver flooring it, and not stopping/reporting is his admission of guilt, Hopefully you got his reg?
-
Thats a sh!tter mate!
could have been worse, this was a mk2 that crashed at 18mph
(http://www.oeamtc.at/netautor/html_seiten/crashtest_kaefer_golf/golf2gr_det.jpg)
How much to fix?
-
That looks less than I thought it would!
Still no consolation for you though Alan.
Lucky escape on the accident regarding claims though. If he had been a legit driver (assuming he either wasn't or had something onboard he didn't want advertising!) then it could've ended up being expensive (time, money for insurance and the inevitable "ouch my neck hurts" claim)

At least your NCB is ok. Easy thing to do in stop start traffic  Like you say could have been much worse.
MKII crash  Glad I never had a major one in mine. Mind you I did what AlanD did, in my MKII. Guy slams on infront, I swerved to the right to miss him and the bottom of the front wing curled back on his tow bar!!
-
Bastard  Its sickening when something like that happens.
-
Sorry to hear about this Alan
Hope you get it sorted out soon
-
Did you get his / her reg number?
If they drove off then they have broken the law (leaving the seen of an accident and all that) That's not to say they'll pay to get you're car repaired though, cos like you say, they probably aren't insured etc... but at least they will get the pleasure of knowing they will go to court.
-
Pah! MKII was one of the safest cars in it's class when new. It;s you lot in your bloaters that are the problem for us!

As long as you got a reg number you can get them to court, police will send a letter to the registered keeper asking who was driving at the time, although probably 10 minutes after the accident the car would have 'coincidentally ' been reported as stolen.
-
SOrry to hear about this - at least it doesn't look TOO bad.... :(
I'd certainly try to get the bloke done though....
Good luck :)

gutted Alan
should have kept the MKIV - i went into the back of a Shogun and came away with just a broken grill and no damage to the Shogun
-
Barstard I would have been chasing the funker until I caught up to him.
on another note that's not 18mph it's 0.18 seconds into a crash iirc. :)

Can a mk2 catch an old focus?

My experience of VW's / Audi's of that era is that they were built like tanks. My mate has an elderly audi 80 (round the clock on a 1.9tdi engine, gearbox has been rebuilt mind), one day the handbrake failed and it rolled down a hill. A pub bench slowed it down before it came to rest against a lampost. The park bench was like matchsticks and the lamp post had a sizeable dent in it. The audi on the other hand had a smashed rear light and a small dent in the bumper. I wouldn't have believed it unless I'd seen it myself. I think these old cars had a more victorian approach to structural design "if in doubt make it heavy"
-
anyway back on topic and off mk2's again
Al glad u ok pal, nightmare i know + i'll sort out spraying another badge for ya kid no worries
-
Not good, I hope you get her back to her best in no time
-
Unfortunately I didn't get his reg as I was worried about my car (bits from the plate holder flew everywhere and I thought it was bits of my car so was concerned for that) I then looked up to see him speed off so didn't get the reg.
Jules, cost wise. Well its £403 for a new GTI bumper, GTI grille and VW badge from my dealer. Thats without paint :(
A place in Crayford called Volksapart want £215 for the same but its not OEM however they say that the parts are "insurance approved" and "made in the same factory", I am a bit sceptical as its considerably cheaper . . . If the jobs worth doing properly and all that. Anyone had any dealings with non OEM bumpers, grilles etc ?
Its so annoying as that money would have paid for my new tyres Im going to need soon :(
-
Report this to the Police, if nothing more than to protect yourself from any future claims (hit and run). Might be the case where the offending driver turns up with your VRm saying you rear ended him and he/she drove off to protect themselves (and several cases of whiplash). Also get the Police to check all immediate CCTV and speed cameras to I/D the offending tw@t. They won't do this if you don't report it

^ Good point that, there are many people about staging accidents for insurance purposes. Best to cover yourself.
-
not sure if i would go non oem route for body parts Al as ive done in the past and found quality and fitment not as good

Sound advice, will do. Should there be CCTV and its shown that he did an emergency stop for no reason, and they get his REG would it still be my fault?
-
The way Ive always understood it - no matter what the person in front does, you should be at a safe distance, or travelling at a safe enough speed, to come to a stop - whether the person in front does an emergency stop or not.
I know thats not very fair in this case, and hopefully the CCTV will change things and put things in your favour.
The strongest point you have on your side at the moment is the fact that the other driver didnt stop - thats deffo somet sus right there, and deffo counts in your favour.
-
By the way, that middle pic in your sig - the blurry one - I try not to look at it cos it really does my head in for some reason!!! lol
-
I was going to update it soon as its now black, but thats kind of been put on hold for a bit lol :(

gutted for you mate
Don't even think about putting non-VW stuff on your car, I know it's a lot cheaper but it'll be worth it in the end!
No Prept on Wednesday then?
-
Dont be silly ! I will be there :D
Iv done a bit of a bodge job / DIY and put it all together again, Iv even got the badge back on with some black marker pen it looks good as new (not lol)
I think your right, going to have to get the bits from VW. Im working this weekend so its going to have to wait till next weekend, Im a bit worried that I wont have it all fixed for Volkfest :(
-
Is this the time to get your valences sprayed as well?
-
It would be if I was made of money :(
Didnt even think of that actually, might see if they can do me a deal with getting the whole lot sprayed. I forgot its a bank holiday weekend so going to try and organise picking it from VW Sunday and getting it sprayed Monday. Going to order the bits in a sec when on my lunch.
-
sorry to hear alan but i would try and source the bits second hand, ebay, breakers etc could save you a whole load of money and you might even find them in black

sorted
-
I doubt thats a OEM one, if it was he would have stated.
Id rather not buy something like that off ebay as if its not right, doest fit or has a mark or something on it then its a pain to get it replaced or refunded.
-
What a w#nker did you not get the reg? I would keep an eye out for it and ill take the twits mirrors off if I see him
-
Gutted for ya mate!
-
Iv got it booked in with Ruben at Tuning Werks to give it a once over and get it sorted on Tuesday afternoon so fingers crossed it will get sorted this week (In time for Volksfest :D)

Every cloud has a silver lining (at a cost lol)
