Title: Whiplash
Post by: Len on 10 August 2004, 20:39
No its not rude  ::)

Saw 5th Gear and they were on about rear shunts. Apparently the Golf Mk 4 has a poor rating. Bad seats are the cause. The head restraint doesnt lock and slips down. The seat itself is not very protective either.

Showed a rather lot of horrific smash aftermaths and staged a multi pile up with remote controled cars. (real cars)

Apparently u r safe in an old big Merc !

prob even better on a mk2 ;)

on a serious note,

cant understand how the build quality of the mk4 is bad compared to say a mk3?

mk4s are more advanced yeh,

so why is build quality/safety suffering?

crazy :D

is safety suffering ? build quality.. maybe, but thats mass production for you.

in an accident im damn sure you'd be safer in a mk4 than an earlier model.

Might well have been a repeat. I saw it on one of the Home and Liesure channels.

Just thought it was relevant.

The seats in my Mk2 are terrorable, I cant wait till ive saved enaught to put in some sparcos i really cant, There thin, Flimsy, Unstable and in a crash theres sweet FA chance of avoiding whiplash.

Mk1s headrest are pointless and probably the worst.  Your can't actually adjust it to support your head.  if you rest your head on it you're pretty much lookin at the sunroof! My black mk1 has a real old fully adjustable heated recaro on the drivers side, its got to be like 20 years old now but is still the most supportive seat I've sat in.  When I had my smash in it, that was the first thing I noticed, my mate sat in the standard seat was worse off than I was, Infact he was moaning so bad he said he might make a claim for damages (cheeky g!t).  To be fair, the mk1 shell can take a hammering.  The seat will have to go on the rebuild as its really showing its age now.   :-[
