Title: my car's back (again)
Post by: Dizzie on 10 August 2004, 00:47
haven't had a good run it her yet as the road was damp on the way back from work and I've got naughty tyres on so didn't want to push too hard and end up in the hedge.

everything looks good and she's running really well now.

I need to clean her up ready for no rice on wed night, and I'll take some pics tomorrow too. :)

my boost is f**ked up top. runs 12 most of the time and today it was maxing at 5! I've checked I haven't got a loose boost hose and they all look ok and I'm thinking it's electrical  >:(

like what?

12 psi would be about normal for a 150bhp car that isn't chipped/remaped, the 180's run 14 psi (from memory) with chipped motors running between 18 and 22 psi. 5 psi sounds like limp mode.. possibly overboosted at some point. Disconnect the battery for 20 - 30 minutes and then take it out and drive it hard, see if it makes a difference.

according to the golf+ standard 150's run 7psi  ???
it might just be a dodgy gauge reading wrong as it doesn't feel A LOT slower when it's running 5. so more than likely it's the gauge. off to get another starter now

im talking TT's  8) the 150 TT wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding, infact it may have only been available here as an import, possibly a different turbo setup to the golf.

I'll give you the ride of your life Sarah  :-*

It's the 180bhp version from a TT. Should be running about 210, but that figure is a guess until it gets on a rolling road.

I popped another mk3 16v starter on and it fired up instantly.

My gearbox is still difficult to engage 2nd on the downshift. Is there any adjustment I can do to it '6?

What box have you got? a cable shift box i take it.
It can be adjusted, but special tools are needed.
There is a basic adjustment, but unfortunately i won't be able to look it up for a couple of days as its packed, i'm moving house of Thursday.
In all honesty if there any niggles with it, contact the garage, they sound like a bunch of useless muppets, don't let them get away with sub standard work.
Did they replace the engine by the way?

have to agree with 6' here dizzie, for the amount you paid you should be able to drive your car away in a 'fully operational manner' if there are things that are wrong that should have been right on collection ie: starter motor, and this gearshift problem, i would return it in an instant, never pay for substandard work, the word cough 'small claims court' cough, cough springs to mind........

With custom work like that theirs always going to be teething problems.

There was nothing wrong with the old engine, dizzie wanted a TT engine !

Yeah i agree, but teething problems the garage sould sort out.

the starter has been fixed now and starts perfectly. The gears are ok, just need to get use to them.

yeah the box is from a mk3 16v so it's cable shifter.

I just can't be arsed to go all the way down there again just for this. it'll cost me more than ?30 in fuel and it's a day to do the journey. I'll fix it myself. I like doing that.

M777CUSGTI, nothing. Like Ross said. I wanted a TT one.

I'll take some pics tomorrow hopefully so you can all pick faults ;)

how does the car feel with all that power Diz?

wheelspin  ;) :D
Title: Re:my car's back (again)
Post by: Dizzie on 11 August 2004, 00:03
to the honest there isn't that much wheel spin. if you do a burn out it holds at 7500rpm and smoke pours from under the arches*.

In the wet it'll spin in 3rd without revving it first. I think the 17's give it a bit more grip in the dry.

*The toyo's on there are illegal that's why I was doing a burn out. I'll put the new yokes on tomorrow (if I get time)

Yeah i agree, but teething problems the garage sould sort out.

They have already sorted out most of the teething problems with the car when putting the other engine in, they even lent him a car while his was away and came to collect and drop off his car !

You cant expect it to be perfect when Diz was so desperate wanting it back, which is fair enough, but IMO it didnt give them much time to test it etc.

Their is different circumstances with every customer in a business so it would be better letting the company and customer sorting it out so that they are both happy and others keep out of it !

It all runs fine now I've sorted a couple of things myself. I'm not going to fart about anymore. If something major goes wrong I'll take it down there, but for now I'll do it myself.
