STILL having cold start/cold idle problems on my 1990 kr. I noticed there's another temp sender(?) under the water flange on the RHS of the head. Two wires run from it. Noticed the green with white tracer goes up to the 5th injector. Tested my 5th injector yday, no fuel coming out. What does this large hex nut temp sender do and what's it called????

not the best awnser to your question but as a guess it's a temp sensor to tell the cold start valve when to work, :embarassed:, not sure about that tho, i'm sure someone will give you the wright awnser and call me stupid or sumfing.
have you cleaned the valve behind the air box? i've got the same 18 16v kr and i had no end of sh!t with the idle untill i cleaned this valve, never even thought that valve would make much of a diffrance, but it has.

What does the valve look like and how did you clean it mate? I'm gettin' desperate!!!!!
-
it's a grey valve goin straight into the bottom half of the air box if i remember right, it's the only valve behind the air box. i used a spray can of brake cleaner (not the whole can) or you could use some petrol or somthing along them lines, just need to flush the sh!t out. worth a try and i hope it works/helps..

Sorry to go on mate! Is it the plastic one or the metal UFO one?
-
the plastic one and dont worry about goin on you know the score dub headz!
-
thats a thermoswitch, it earths the 5th injector to the block via green/white but only when engine is cold. the red/black wire is a starter motor feed, this heats the switch up and opens the circuit up while engine is cranking to prevent the engine being flooded.

any joy sorting this out?

No! STILL having really bad running on cold start! Pulling my bl00dy hair out now! Thinking of leaving the car out my dad's house one night and going out the next morning and phoning the RAC! Tried it the other day with my car outside my house, but the cover isn't home start!!!!
