Title: running 16v on 95 octane ?

hi guys
im working in ireland at the minute and bought over my mk1 16v kjet cabby

however i am unable to find any garages that sell super unleaded [97ron] over here in cork

any suggestions?

i was told that 16v's should run 97ron fuel

octane booster?

never had an issue running anything on 95, including valvers, g60 etc.

technically, to run 95 you have to retard the ig. timing a bit or not use full throttle/high revs but ive never had an issue either.

if you hear it pinking retard it a bit

The problem is that you won't hear high-rev pinking, you'll just get honeycomb pistons, as Nige on CGTI recently got.

Drive gently and use octane booster - maybe ask on irish forums where you can get 97RON?

listen out for mid range pinking under full load then  :rolleyes:
