i just fitted 17s to my mk3 golf gl and when i go over pot holes and humps sounds like i got rubbing on the suspension cup, any one know if this is a problem and if theres a cure without buying coilovers for now? cheers
-
Ya dont say what tyres ya got on there.
I got 17 x8 wheels with 215/40's and i dont get any rubbing or knocking
-
thanks for the reply what model u got? any suspension u recommend in the ?200-400 bracket, mate said spax psx what do u think
-
Mk 3 of course as its in this section. :P :D
A 16V 5 door P reg.
Spax are fine. Got em on me other car and had them on previous cars. Go for the adjustables.
Heard from track racing guys that they aint no good for that but i have found em fine for fast road use. 5 years on 405 Mi 16 which is a heavy car.
-
what suspension have u got on the golf and how low is it? would a 40mm drop require modifying the arches at all because il probably go for the spax. Dont suppose u know anywhere to get them from at a good price
-
if u want u should go and buy some coilovers like i did, u can set up to ur requirements. i got supersports from vemon runnin on 17" 205/40 if ur changin ur suspenion make sure u can ur mounts too at the same time.

what tem supersport coilovers like for ride comfort. would u recommend them over the FK coilover kits. any one got FK coilovers (highsport or konigaport) as i seen the highsport kit and its quite cheap but how good is it as some people saying u get what u pay for

Sorry about piggy backing on this thread, but GolfGL might find some of this / the answers relevant.
I'm running 17/40/205's on a R reg Mk3 Golf Cabriolet still running on stock VW Golf "sports" suspension and looking to put on Koni/Eibach.... any possible probs? Only looking to drop it 25mm, so not really expecting any.
I've been told the Spax and H&R kits give a much harsher ride and GolfVR6 always swears by the Weitec, but heard they're also a bit harsher than the Koni/Eibach combination.
Also been told that although coilovers are great for adjustable ride height, but they tend to be better suited for people who need to drop the car for track use.... apparently most coilover sets are pretty harsh on normal roads...
I don't mind paying the money for good kit. Not wanting anything for track use - just looking for a slightly less "wallowy"/wobbly ride, but not wanting any more jarring than I get already...
-
With my 17 x 8 wheels i want to go up to 225/45 tyres and i also want a stiffer and slightly lower ride. So 25mm is all i wanna drop.
Been told i will need spacers for this so might have some body problems then.
So i am looking for a suspension kit too.

ive got 17inch alloys 7.5inch wide and not rolled my arches yet ....but im gonna have to do to get it lower .its around 60mm at the moment
ive got supersport coilovers from venom too...
and my god it is harsh on the open road ..but i love watching my mrs breasts wobbles all over the place ..lol ;D ;D.plus it looks the dogs........
it helps too if you have a tyre that has a sloping sidewall on it as it gives you more room to drop

as much as id love a harsh ride on good roads there aint none round me so aint practical - started new topic should be good to see what everyone else has got
