can you run a mk1 golf gti without the accumulator ?? will it run ok , will the fuel pump be ok?? :embarassed:
-
it should run, but you might upset the metering head plus warm/hot starts would be effected. the accumulator is there to smooth out fuel flow to the metering head and it holds pressure for a few minutes after engine shut off to prevent nthe fuel vapourising in the lines and vapour locking it.
But if you arnt running k-jet then it is not required.
-
my car will start and run but will not take throttle , i have changed the four injectors ,metering head, and fuel pump all new and its running the same any ideas m8???
-
isd it deffo the right spec pump, and what fuel setup are you using at the back, tintop tank or llater model lifter pump?
-
tin top tank with mk1 gti 82 fuel pump from gsf
-
should be reet, is what im using. unless gsf pump is crap, or yet more crud has come thru and got stuck in it. whats the L pipe between pump & tank like, its not kinked is it? is the outlet on the tank free of blockages and did you clear the tank out good n proper before fitting?
edit: oh and check the inlet side of pump, if it has a wee basket filter in take this out. had no end of trouble getting fuel to flow on mine and I had fitted this basket from another pump. was fine after i binned it.
-
fitted new tank+filler neck after going through 3 fuel pumps because of rust, car was running fine then started playing up back fireing and running on three not taking throttle then when i changed the metering head four injectors and fuel pump, had pressure test did fine still running bad will start half a turn idle ok but will not take throttle ???but stoped backfireing
-
ok then, if you can join the main feed pipeto the pump to bypass the accumulator the car should run ok, and if the problem is solved you know its the accumulator thats giving you the trouble. a mk2 one will fit and will be a bit newer, as will early corrado kr :)
-
i dont have an acumulator on car m8
-
oh, i thought you were asking if you could remove it! i havent heard anything concrete that says k-jet has problems without them, but yours isnt happy right now and you've changed everything else...
-
i never put an acumulator on it and she used to run fine without it here the vid starting first time
http://s277.photobucket.com/albums/kk54/tamthebam16v/?action=view¤t=05092008138.flv
she was running fine then i drove it 100 yards over a bumpy road at 5 mph then she wouldnt take throttle since then ??? but will start half a turn of the key and idle fine ??
-
been out at her there the now and she will tick over fine but will not take any throttle at all and will cut out but if i clap the return line a bit she will take throttle ?? so problem down to fueling ,
what do you think will fix it ??
-
sounds like you have a low pressure/delivery problem. my next step would be to get an accumulator on there, isnt much else it can be since you've replaced prettyy much everything!
ideally you want to get yourself some pressure gauges, then you can see exactly what is going on in the metering head. the WUR could be faulty i guess, setting control pressure too low...
-
any one with this problem?
-
have you fitted an accumulator yet or not?
-
no m8 as the car was running fine without one
-
maybe its time to try eh? ;)
-
i have read up on the acumulator and it only holds the fuel pressure when engine is turnd off so wouldnt do any thing when engine running to help and the car was running reving fine without it for ages, The car starts half at turn of the key warm or cold but will not take throttle will just cut out as not enoght fuel getting though ,if i clap the retun line she will rev a bit vut i can hear the fuel pump straning then return line claped , i have my fuel pump on a switch so if i turn the switch on engine not running i hear the fuel coming and going down the fuel lines and back to the tank , and when i lift the metering head flap no fuel sprays and it has 4 brand new injectors all new gaskets brand new mk1 gti hard top fuel pump and brand new filler neck + tank :embarassed:
hear was the car running before all problems without acumulator

all the work i have done to it so far
on hear (V) have a look see what you think m8

have you changed wur? if youve ended up with crap in the wur it will affect control pressures
the accumulator as well as holding residual pressure also smooths out the flow of fuel to the metering head
-
changed wur to m8 all i can think is that it must be the metering head
-
i'm sure there was a similar post on mk1golf forums and it turned out that there was a shim missing from the pressure regulator in the metering head
maybe swop the pressure regs over first rather than change m/head?
did the metering head that you changed come from a working car?
-
i put more chims in the pressure regulator and tryed less but made no diferince to it
metering head i go was ment to be good :embarassed:
-
mmmh i had a gander on clubgti and there was athread where a guy had changed his injectors, but the new injectors did not have the silver 'caps' on them, so he swapped them them over from the old ones, but it turns out the bosch techy he took it to removed 'caps' and car ran fine
have a look over on clubgti and do search of 16v fuelling
really you need pressure guage to diagnose fault otherwise its gonna be very hit and miss, oh and try a brand new fuel filter in case other one has been partially blocked
-
no fuel filter on it yet
-
no fuel filter? what its never had one ?
-
after i put the new fuel tank + filler neck + fuellines on and new injectors so there will not be any sht in the tank so no filter yet i will put one on but trying to get it running right first
THE CAR WAS A 83 1.1 C WHEN I GOT IT
-
i dont think petrol is 100% clean you know, as in there is gonna be the odd particule or dirt etc in it after all the underground storage tanks do corrode
maybe by not running a filter all you have done is blocked the metering head or injectors again
-
did all the work i about 2 weeks so didnt think i could be blocked all alreadl :embarassed:

-
     :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:  HOPE NOT
-
sorry mate but if captain picard is in despair i d say you've definintely f00ked the metering head
again, it is critical clean fuel is delivered to the m/head and injectors
i guess you wont make the mistake of running without a fuel filter again
-
YEP  going to get another meteringhead soon fingers crossed that will fix it + ill put a fillter on first just in case
-
got another metering head and it was still the same so i pulled the brand new injectors out and turned the fuel pump on and lifted the mettering flap up and nothing so i put the old injectors back on and they sprayed fuel  so put them in and she runs and revs  she needs set up as she is slow as sh.it  but at least she is going now  so the brand new injectors are ether wrong ones or faulty so £140 for nothing + all the other things i bought all in about £400 for nothing
-
heres a vid of how she runs still not right any ideas #??

-
does sound like it only running on 3cyl have you double checked ignition timing? make sure you got a spark on all plugs
maybe cam timing out?
-
runs on four when ticking over getting spark on all four to, do you think the hall sender could cause this ??
-
try ignition module, its a small square box that screws to the top of the ecu
there is atest for it with a multi meter, do a search for 16v misfire on here
-
ok m8
-
i took the brand new plugs out and they where sooty all of them and they where only in the car one day no miles only ticking over and a little reving so think its defo fueling

anyone ??? santa plz fix ma car you robbing basterd
-
Have you checked the timing, both static and ignition? Just sounds a bit "lazy"
