Title: Simple Suspension Question
Post by: operaghost on 18 May 2009, 08:41
Hi all,

Suspension on my 1.8GL is basically shot, so looking to replace it.

A friend has a low mileage mk3 diesel which he is breaking; basically the suspension struts are mine if wanted.  Are these units a straight swap for the GL's?  Believe the GTi suspension is different, and as not that mechanically minded a simple bolt off, bolt on would be appreciated.  Thought that by swapping whole strut would avoid needing spring compressors, etc.

On slightly different note, have just swapped the instrument cluster for one from a SE - silver dials.  Brown dash and silver dials looks now - very pleased!

Thanks all for your help.

The diesel springs will be no good, they are uprated to cope with the heavier engine, a better bet is a s/h Gti set up if your on a budget would lower it a little bit as well.

shocks would be ok to use though, but 2nd hand stuff is false economy really.
