Title: Dash LED Lights - What it is and where can you get one from?

Hi
Could anyone tell me what the LED light to the left of the blue 'Main Beam' light is for?  Also what colour should it be and does anyone know where to get one from as my is missing?

I believe it's oil level, and it should be red

Just checking:   Are they tiny little bulbs, or LEDs ??

the blue one is a bulb with blue cover the red ones are led's

If I recall correctly, the sequence is:
Indicator>Altenator>Water Temperature>Oil Pressure>Main Beam.

Either way, the three in the middle are all red LEDs, and are all the same as far as I can tell. Indicator is a green LED and Main Beam is a white bulb with a blue cover.

If you take another of the red LEDs out, and take it to a local electrical shop/Maplin, they may be able to match you a similar replacement. Failing that, I have a couple lying around out of a spare (and dismantled!) set of MK2 instruments if you want me to post you one for a small fee.

Note that when replacing it, an LED is a diode, and will only work one way - if it doesn't seem to be working, it's in the wrong way round!

just stick a 5mm red indicator led in there,   there all near as dammit the same.    dont try an ultra bright tho it'll be a  bit bright

need to check what voltage tho, if its 12v leds needed then a normal led will blow up. never actually checked here so i dont know either way

they are standard leds.   

the " 12v " you see are a normal standard led with a resistor okk about 1k ohm in the case with it. 

led's woark at about 2.7 volts and upto 20mA.

with leds it's current thats inportant not voltage.  once you get 2.7 volts across the dioed it'll start conducting fi there in no means of controllign the current even a tiny increse in voltage wilt try and cause a massive increase in current ( in reality the led just pops ) hence why they are allways used with a resistor.

those small led torches  running from 3v lithium batterys don't appear to have a resistor  but have a 2 cells giveing 6 volts the only reason they work is as there small batterys they have quite high internal resistance hence there ablity to supply current at that voltage is very limuted.  the led can happily absorb more power at it junction voltage than the batterys can supply at that voltage
