HI all

just wandering if you can help me , i have just bought a 1990 g reg mk 2 gti 16v , i was wandering if they came with power steering and if so    mine is not working , why could that be , sorry for not knowing much about the car as i'm learning

It was optional. You'd know if the power steering was present but not working, as the steering is REALLY heavy, considerably heavier than a normal car without it (at least mine was). If the steering feels like any other non-PAS car, then I'm assuming you haven't got it

Could be a few reasons its not working

Belt snapped/loose
No fluid/leak
Broken pump
You don't have PAS

All faults should be easy to spot - its a simple system.

if you have power steering next to your battery there will be a power steering resevoir

99% sure that power steering was standard on 16v by 1990.

yeah I just hope it's not a high pressure hose that's all I can say...157.15 plus the VAT new

I'm in the process of sorting my power steering.

If it's a pump I'll sell you one of my spare ones :grin:

I must of been in the 1% cos mine has no power steering tank or some onehas took it out

any other signs to look out for

there has been 19 years for someone to remove it and fit a manual rack even if it was standard fit

Is your hazard light switch on the top of the steering column or on the dash?
Can you post a pic of the engine bay?
