hi all,
anybody any ideas on how to get alloy wheels off my gti...?
and yes the bolts are out, its just they seem to be stuck on the s***e aftermarket discs!!
we've tried smacking them, spinning them, slamming the brake on...
can they be heated and expand then come off???
help, lol
cheers
-
this happend on my car (not a golf) it was about 3 years old at the time.
i tried getting them off on axle stand with a lump of wood and club hammer with no joy.
took them to kwick fit and they took all 4 of and cooper greased them for £10 god knows how they got them of but they did and my tracking etc is still fine 2 years later.

This might sound dangerous. Hell - it probably is, and could end in disaster.....
BUT.....
could you put one wheel bolt in every wheel - drive your car VERY SLOWLY round they block or something, then try again?
Worth a shot mabye.
Please don't sue me if it all goes tits up.
-
lmao mow...
tried that!!
we put 4 on loose but no luck!!!
cant beleive it, cos ive now got 2 sets of tyres on!!
might have to pop to selecta tyre tomoz then, can barely drive the bloody thing!!!
just rubbing like a reet f****r!
chris... did it take them long to get the buggers off??
-
i went to a few shops down the high street so was probalby half hour or so. carnt remember tbh as it was a couple of years ago
-
ok mate cheers!!
will have to go and embarass myself tomoz am then, lol,
will let ya know how it goes!!

try this worked when happend to me
use wd40 and brake cleaner
jack up the car safely remove bolts and go over bored whit wd40 spray each bolt hole spray the gap were wheel sits on hub just go wd40 and leave for a while to settle over night if need be
oh the brake clean use this the clean brake disks of wd40 !!! ;)
-
Remove the bolts, jack the car up and hit the wheel from the inside whilst spinning it around.
-
lol, was waiting for the take wheels bolts off one, cheers mate, lol
we tried that too!!
but its ok, just got back from selecta tyre, and the lad there got the biggest hammer he could find and took a brave swing at it, lol
sorted!!
thanks for your replys though...
think im gonna have to get those silly discs off the back though, cba with this every time i need to get the wheel off!!
-
You can always try a smear of cooper slip around the center should stop them getting stuck.
-
Yeah I've used copperslip around the mating surface of wheel to hub - no problems ever with mine
-
i did that, was always told ya cant use enough, lol...
so i slapped tons on and still took alot of getting off...
its always the same with aftermarket stuff though aint it,.. never quite fits as it should!
-
Usually i,
Remove bolts,
Kick it
Kick it some more
Go inside for tea as my foot hurts
Come back out, kick it some more
Hit it with the wrench as they are standard gti alloys
Hit it, kick it, f n blind some more
then grab it and in true hulk style pull like you never pulled before and go flying backwards onto the ground with a wheel on my lap.
Try that ;)
-
Copper mallet and a plank of wood works nicely.
-
lol, thanks peeps, quality mikester, love that write up, my foot still hurts!!!
glad they got it off at selecta though...
slightly off topic but when we couldnt get the brake caliper bolts off my rsdo once i pulled so hard i ended up head butting the wijng and leaving a dent!! lol
-
mallet and plank of wood. Hit the top, then the bottom, then top, bottom, top, bottom and so on and so forth. Keep hitting it until it eventually loosens up.
