Title: Miltek exhaust.. Power Gains & Warranty
Post by: edition_30 on 15 May 2009, 13:12
I got an ed30 and am thinking of adding a miltek exhaust from the turbo including new downpipe... im not looking to remap so was wondering would I see any performance gains?

Also would this void my warranty?

I don't think that it would void your warranty. But be prepared for your CEL light to come on from the lambda sensor due to the new Sport Cat.

With regard to performance gains, hmmmm without a remap tuning the car to exploit the extra size of the downpipe I'd expect real world gains of maybe 3-5hp??

Im running a larger downpipe from the turbo and a Miltek Sport cat and have not had the CEL light. Been on for 2 months now.

Mine had already been remapped so its hard to tell with regards to gains. You well get small gains as it will help the car "breath" better, it compliments my CAI very well imo. You can hear it sucking more air since adding it.

Not sure on the warranty side of things (mine is out so not bothered). Safest way to get a definitive answer (rather than what someone says on here) is to speak to the dealer and see what they say.

^^^^^

And that system was on my car for a year with absolutely no issues. It's a 200 cell single cat compared to the factory twin cat 800 cell system. You won't get any warning lights. If you do then it's a problem elsewhere.

And as Al said, best to speak to the VW warranty bods. although it is superior to the tat they fit as standard so I can't see why it would.

Are you saying that the OEM downpipes have 2 x 400CEL cats (as opposed to 2 x 800CEL cats)?

The word from Milltek is to only use the full TBE with a remapped car as there will only be minimal gain in hp on a standard car.

Yep standard Downpipe has two cats choking the crap out of the engine. Exhaust itself isn't about power, its about letting the engine perform to its full potential by letting the gases flow much more freely.

Interesting that your lambda probes have not been affected ^^^

I know of at least 5 cars that have had this problem! They have then went to Stage 2 software which disables the threshold on the lambda sensor and its been fine.

Interesting

the APR exhaust sounds far superior!

I spoke to Miltek about 2 weeks ago re their TBE on my Edition 30.

They stated that if the car is not remapped the CEL will come on - it may be some months down the line but apparently at some stage it will come on.

Their advice is always to only go TBE if remapped or about to be.

Ahh, both mine and Komendas had been remapped which might explain why we didnt have this issue.
