just recieved a letter from my insurance company (virgin money) asking for no claims bonus details (fair enough) and also proof of imobiliser/alarm, when i signed up with them i told them i had a factory fitted imobiliser as do all cars '96 onwards (is this correct?) now they want proof of it? i was planning on getting a cat 1 fitted eventually but not yet as i've just spent all my cash on buying the car. What can i do? i take it atm i am insured against everything except theft then?
Cheers

Take it to a garage and get them to verify it has an immobiliser

I have never known an insurance company need proof for a factory fitted system, I am with the AA and they never asked for proof with the Bmw.

Tesco wanted proof of my cat 1. Admiral didn't, didn't even want my proof of no claims?
-
HIC wanted also a photocopy of my paper part to prove i have 0 points.
But not that i had a factory alarm.

Exactly what i thought because i already told them it was factory fitted, bugger it i will just wait untill i get an alarm fitted and then send them the certificate. Hopefully it wont get stolen in the meantime

If you dont send them the proof within a few weeks, if you have a claim they might get very very assy. Would get it sorted asap mate.

ok i will get it sorted a soon as i can possibly afford it. How much will the damage be for a cat 1/2 alarm/imobiliser + fitting?

Was it a toad Ai606 by any chance? All good?

Mk3's have the window of the key anyways, been told its 1 wire to add total closure from the keyfob on an alarm? lol
-
no extra wiring is required for total closure the toad alarm just needs programming to be able to do it

are you sure ??
the factory immobiliser is transponder and built into the key so you would never know you had one if you remove the lower steering wheel shroud and look to see if there is a black plastic ring surrounding the barrel if there is then you do have an immobiliser
