Title: Well goodbye and thanks for the advice everyone
Post by: matthewsimone on 14 May 2009, 21:22
Hi all just a quick 1 too say goodbye as ive sold my gti after just 5 months of ownership but made £790 profit on what i paid for it so well happy, as ive said in some of my previous posts i used to have a show condition series 1 rs turbo and since selling it have always missed the whole RS theme of things so decided to sell my 2006 gti and return to the world of Rs probably a focus Rs (original one)
The Golf is a great car but just a little to reserved and sensible for my liking  maybe its just because im only 24 lol and just need to get it out of my system or something, anyway thanks again for all advice etc and hope to be back on here one day when, maybe when ive grown up a little, regards, MATT

Is it the new RS that you are going for now then?

I've just see the new Mk VI GTI in the flesh at Des Winks VW, Scarborough. In candy white with 18" Monzas. Looks a bit RS IMHO. More bling and boy racer'ish with vaned front ducts/oblong fogs, chromed steering wheel inserts and twin rear exhausts/rear diffuser

I'm sure it will be dynamically a bit better than the Mk V but at £27k for the example I saw - still a mature drivers price

I personally loved the Mk V, best GTI by a mile and a really good all rounder.

Cass

as alan d states ifti no im going for the original focus rs cant afford nearely 30k for a new one and if i had 30k to spend then it certainly wouldnt be on a focus lol the original rs is one hell of a car imo 0-6 around 6 secs etc over a sec quicker than gti etc and with the rs badge should hopefully retain a bit of value in a few years time, (i hope) i think the rs is just a little more shouty and hardcore compared to the mk5 not that the gti isnt a fantastic car because it really is a great all rounder just want something a little madder even considered a v6 clio until discovered they dont go round corners haha

Matt, did you not consider making some mods to your GTI?

Mine is a completly diffrent car to drive after the mods Iv done and id hazard a guess at it being faster than an original Focus RS. OK it wont have the 4WD but . . . .

Just food for thought. Bit late now really. Best of luck (do like the Focus RS)

hi alan the rs is only fwd mate lol its the escort cossie thats 4wd and yes did consider mods but wasnt to flush especially with big repayments on gti and just didnt like having a car on finance with a huge final payment after 3 years etc im going to go down the personal loan route for the rs with a better interest  rate and just fixed monthly repayments as was being charged 13.9% by vw finance i can get a personal loan with a rate of 7.9%  and atleast if i got made redundant etc they cant take the car away once registered to the missus lol which they can with finance companys

Good luck driving it in a straight line ;)

But seriously it is a quality car, like you said a lot more hard core - and a hark back (almost) to the Cossie days! As an Essex Boy at heart I have grown up with fast fords and owned one, so a teeny bit jealous!

Original Focus RS is an animal, stacks of power therefore stacks of torque steer through those front wheels but good fun all the same.........prices have dropped on these a lot, but should hold its value as things start to improve

Focus RS Mk1 is FWD

Never fancied a mapped ED30 Matt?

would love a ed30 hurdy there is a guy at my gym who is there every time in his ed30 used to make me not like my gti lol unfortunately i just cant quite stretch to a ed30 at present as only looking at a budget of around 10k which seems to be spot on for a good mileage FRS

Ah, I see now.

Fair enough. I've driven the MK1 RS a long time ago and it does look the part, but it seemed a little "frenzied" in the handling department for me. Having said that it would probably seem quite tame in comparison now
