Title: engine swap 8v digi gti
Post by: squires on 14 May 2009, 18:38
i want to swap my old 8v digi engine out of my written off golf, it was an 89 gti with the pre 90 spec clocks (hazards on dash).
i have recently bought a 90 spec digi with 160,000 on the clock and it doesant pull as well, im just wondering will all the wire connections remain the same or would i need to change the fuse box and ecu over, its worth doing as my old engine ran sweet(140000) and pulled like a train will full service history, and whilst its out i was going to do the engine bay.
many thanks lee

just swap the base engine over, everything will plug right in.

like johnny says, just unplug everything from your current engine, install new lump and plug everything back onto it!

many thanks, im just about ready to drop the engine, just got drive shafts and engine mounts to go, but its now pi##in it down with rain.
i have left the exhaust manifold and down pipe on the engine, will it still drop out easy or will the down pipe catch the subframe/ steering rack? the bolts holding the downpipe to the manifold look pretty corroded.

thanks for the help ive only ever done one engine on a ford capri lol, whilst i have this one out its gettin new gaskets all round and im thininking of getting the head slighty ported with a 4 branch, and a lick of paint wont hurt.

providing your using a crane to get it out, it will slide out no problem with the down-pipe still attached.

i was hoping to drop it on a jack and roll the car back, iv left the downpipe bolts to soak in oil, looks like it will have to come off.
