Hi guys, took my mk3 for a service yesterday, tehy were unable to change the oil as teh screw had been stuck in with filler, and didnt want to take it out incase it wouldnt go back in, so they said they need to order a new one direct from VW, though it costs £150 from them and no one else does them, I have seen some on e bay for about £60, but was also wonering if this is a part you can use from second hand? just trying to save a bit of money as it needs quite a bit doing to it.

wow £150 deffo dont do that lol, id get one from scrappy/ ebay whatevers cheapest, just make sure that the sump plug thread isnt stripped cos that would just be a waste of time+ money
You could always just helicoil, drill out + rethread your existing sump, they might even do it for you, have to ask though??
good luck neway

i had the same prob when i had my valver and my mates garage have this suction pipe thing wich they put down the dip stick thingy and they did it that way,
the garage you went to might not have it but its a good tool for sumps that dont come off,
but best thing is ring scrappys it will cost you way more than dealers, just make sure the boldt comes of when you get 1 and keep it greases

Pick up a s/h sump and change it yourself, easy enough to do.

Gsf sell sump pans, DannyGL just bought one. If i remember rightly it was like £25 for the sump pan. lol

Dont sell the pan for a 16v or VR though, dont know what you have? Maybe thats the problem.

EuroCarParts dont do a sump pan for a 16v, but do the one for a VR6. Still only half the £150scene tax price:

The steel sump from the 8v will fit and abf engine. You will need slightly shorter bolts than the abf ones to fit it though.

cool, quite tempted to get the old one sucked out as get the feeling that if I get a new one it will just happen all over.
I have a 16V, but will look around some scrappys and see if they have any for sale.

16v sump pan is VW only and made of alloy so it's expensive ! 8v won't fit so don't bother with a steel one !

According to the info I have you can fit the 8v steel ones to a 16v.
Also fairly (99%) certain that my 16v has a steel sump fitted, will check at the weekend.
Any reason why you say the 8v steel one won't fit - I looked into it a while ago when I wanted to fit sump baffles and the info i was given at the time said they were interchangeable as lonh as you used the shorter bolts for the steel one.
I haven't tried this yet, but am interested to find out if you have had problems going down this route. The gasket is the same for the 8v and 16v so the shape is the same, and as I said it looks like my 16v has had a steel sump put on sometime earlier on in its life.

it was a long time ago, but when i changed my sump i don't think the steel one lined up correctly at all.....

Was just about to post thred on this very same subject, have a valver with same issue, best get saving, £150 bucks

if its just the sump plug threads are stripped/ buggered y no just drill out, tap with larger thread+use a bigger bolt from some other car/normal bolt with copper washer, alot cheaper than 150big ones

Just been under mine to install a solid front engine mount - anyway mine has definately got a steel sump fitted to it now, the part number label has faded so I cant give you the part number.
According to some info on another site you can fit the sump and windage tray from a diesel to a valver and also any big block engine sump ie: Mk3 2.0 8v and the mk2 16v.
