As above really, I'm sure there was a thread on here a while back. have taken the door card off and sprayed wd40 along the runners but cant figure out whats squealing. Is it the motor? Can i replace it or can it be fixed. It's like puting a drill through your head just lowering and raising the window. :sad:

is the glass catching on anything? like a bolt too long somewhere??

Did you spray the window seals? If not give them a spray with some wd40

spray with Silicone spray not WD40 as that dries out
there is a tiny piece of glass in the rubber somewhere by the sound of it
get the glass out and stick a small screw driver in and the rubber and slide it around till you pick it out :)

Didn't do that as thought greasey windows was a bad idea. I'll give it a blast in the morning, cheers.
It was difficult to pin point as it's so loud.

Good idea, i've got some gt85 bike lube, maybe that will be better. :smiley:

WD40 and GT85 are both water dispersants - so as above, don't spray seals with it!
On mine, the squeal was the metal guides, I coated them with copper slip, then noise gone.

I knew someone had a similar problem on here. Copper slip? What is that? :huh:

Copper slip is an anti sieze compound - the same stuff you whack on break pads to stop squeal and bolt threads to stop them sticking.
If you don't have some, and you DIY a lot - then buy a pot, its usefull for everything, tastes great in coffee too :laugh:

WD40 is good (as is GT85) but you obviously have to use the right product for the right application. As a rule of thumb...
GT85/WD40 for bike chains, dispersing water and for applications where there isn't heavy frictional contact (otherwise it just wears off).
Moly grease for CV joints / wheel bearings
Copper slip for bolt threads, contact faces (ie. wheel > hub to stop it sticking on) ...
Standard grease for movey bits, door hinges etc.
Lithium grease for wheel bearings and high heat applications
