(Please don't move to insurance section, or at not least until 6pm - need some quick answerings)
Sup peeps. Insurance has to be renewed by 6pm today, otherwise I can't drive home
I've got two prices on the table ...
Bell
£381.05
Fully Comprehensive
All mods declared
3rd party cover on other vehicles
£400 excess
HIC
£406.00
Third party fire and theft
All mods declared
3rd party cover on other vehicles
£575 excess
£1900 agreed value with option of salvage retention
The only difference between the two is I get agreed value on HIC but its TPFT and more expensive.
What do you reckon I do?
-
Bell policy would be my choice, I have always gone for fully comp plus the excess is lower.
-
Bell on price but to be honest see what benefits you get on thr HIC policy compared to the Bell policy it may be the one to go for.

Looking at the fact you're getting agreed value, which I'm assuming Bell won't do?? That's pretty good. It's only £20 difference in price, but obviously £200 more on excess....but if something does happen to your car, Bell will prob value the loss at...what, maybe £1000?? I've seen a few cases on here where people's GTI write offs have received around £500 :undecided: :undecided:
-
One thing I always look for is breakdown cover. Stick with HIC, agreed value is worth its weight in gold pal.

Only downside to HIC is that if I bin it, I won't get a bean, whereas Bell will at least give me something back ...
-
You know the answer to that? Don't bin it!
-
I'd tentatively say go for Bell.
Fully comp and you get to drive other cars third party if needs must!
Don't suppose you've tried Brentacre have you?
They were top-notch for my renewal quote!
But, if it's just out of the two, Bell :afro:

Both let me drive other vehicles 3rd party ;)
I'll give Brentacre a buzz now
-
Ah yeah sorry, missed that on the HIC list :embarassed:
-
Yeah, its not fully comp - so they wouldn't pay a penny :(
Just spoke to Brentacre, no agreed value policies and £500 TPFT and £600 Fully comp. Its a no goer.
-
Ahhh fair play.
I'd be tempted to stick with Bell personally!
Purely cos it's a fully comp policy :)
-
I've got the best part of the day to decide, so its cool.
As long as I renew my insurance before I drive home, lol - I'll be fine!
-
What about Flux?
I wouldn't touch HIC with yours, but that's just my personal experience of a particular snake that works there.....
-
3rd party or fully comp, hmmm hard decision lol
get the legal cover as well, its needed for complicated claims, getting the money for my red 16v took the solicitor just over a year!
-
actually, whats the point of agreed value on a tpft policy?
-
If it burns, you get an agreed value back on it?
Just a guess, like.
-
at the end of the day, the difference is, do you think you are more likely to be at fault or not if you have a hit?
-

Interestingly when I called HIC's number - it connected me to Flux (are they connected nowadays?). Do tell more about the HIC hate, no point me going for the more expensive one for better service if its not.

I'm 23 and have never had an accident (touching wood profusely), but if I ever have a bump - I'm 23, which usually instantly means its my fault unless they admit liability.
actually, whats the point of agreed value on a tpft policy?
I was hoping agreed for theft or fire?
-
Oh it's just that they were very keen to dig about on this site for evidence when I said I wanted to cancel the policy, because it didn't meet my needs. I thought it was a touch 'invasive', shall we say?
They may know one end of a modified car from the other, but they are also very sharp in other ways.
The two companies may be connected, but they offer different policies and have different internal policies, too.
-
Didn't know HIC were adrain flux were connected.
I have fully comp with the Flux. All mods declared and an agreed value of 3000.00 for my Oak Green 'valver. I have a conviction and points and it's not too bad. (Got the stupidest 3 points ever and the accident wasn't my fault)
-
Just on the blower to Flux now, the woman said HIC and Flux are sister companies.
Going to see if they can quote me happy
-
Flux just swapped my policy from my camper to my MKII and all it cost was £16 extra in premium and they waived the admin fee of £25 as the policy ends in just over a month.
Result.

20 minutes till shutdown  decided yet?
-
Best offer from Flux was £640 fully comp with agreed value and £440 for TPFT.
Still not made up my mind
I think I'll have to insure with Bell and wait at least year before crashing my car, then I can get agreed value next year.
-
bell ben.
-
Well boys and girls. In the end I have opted for Bell.
Sorted myself with 12 months fully comprehensive cover, legal protection (as reccomended by veedubgti16v), driving third party on other vehicles yada yada yada for £400.
At least I can drive home, well, in 23 minutes I can
-
Hard at work then?
Good you got it sorted though. I'm putting off wrestling the power steering of my mk3
-

More than sister companies, when I was with adrian flux they told me they own HIC and it would be pointless to try and see if they would be cheaper.
-
depends on what the agreed value is. tpft excesses are usually lower than fully comp ones. i am tpft as my cars agreed at a grand, so fully comp with a 500 excess is pointless. much prefer tpft with 150 excess.
-
Bit late now boss
-
what's the agreed value and excess?
-
I went with Bell - so no agreed value or excess.
However ...

£400 excess
HIC
£406.00
Third party fire and theft

-
nice one - third party on other cars is always a nice thing to have.
-
Yeah, I've had that for the past 3 years - I can't live without it.
Before that I was covered by a fleet policy which was cool.
-
Don't forget you still have 14 days to change your mind. May be worth getting a couple more quotes from specialists; Footman James gave me a good quote.
I'd stick with Bell though unless you can find cheaper with agreed value.
