Yesterday my '02 GTi 1.8T started to overheat and today rose to a lovely 130 degrees.
As soon as the engine revs come back down to idle, the temperature goes back to 90 degrees.
The radiator fan kicks in and out as it should do, heater is hot.
I've read the other thread very similar to this and like Voodo-Music, my water pump was replaced at the same time as the cambelt. I just need to check how long ago that was.
So just like the other thread, it's possible my replacment pump has failed.
The garage cannot see my car for the next two weeks.
-
My water pump was new and it broke within months. I have changed everything on the cooling system, all the hoses, thermostat, sender, bottle and it to my suprise was the pump AGAIN.
This time i fitted a metal impellor and all i can be thankful for is my cooling system should last a lot more years
-
do you have any sort of warranty on the water pump that you can claim against??
-
Not sure rhyso, i have the pump and could take it back but im not sure i have the reciept from vw and i paid cash

if you bought it from VW you should have a 2 years parts warranty
i'd also kick up a fuss that its not fit for purpose and demand some compensation towards fitting!
-
changed the water pump a month back, was havin the same problem

He was probably asking me.
The last owner had the belt and pump done, so I'm assuming it's a few years ago now.
-
i thought he was talking to me as i mentioned mine was broken from vw and you didnt mention vw mate
sorry
-
Oh right, thought he was asking me as I started this topic and mentioned that my pump was replaced with the cambelt. No worries.
Have you had yours done yet and has it sorted any trouble out?
-
apologies Ant but i was asking voodoo :embarassed:
-
Oh right. With respect, the reason I started my own thread although we have the same issue is that I didn't want to encroach too much on someone elses thread. Surprised this wasn't mentioned and asked in his own thread then, but no worries, it's just the reason I thought you were asking me.
Anyway, I've got a two week wait here, rubbish

I don't trust anyone else
I used to have a MkII GTi, took it one place and someone was out in it 'testing it', I watched it come back, stinking of clutch! Stinking of clutch, yeah, they were f**king testing it alright.
Another place left it on the street, unlocked.
:undecided:

bloke i used to work with has a Corvette - just had it resprayed - looks mint!
-
I've been toying with the idea of a respray, but they expensive!
Must admit, it sounds the nuts that V8, one reason I won't change the exhaust on the Golf, because it's nice to have a quiet car.
-
I just thought anyway, can't take it to someone else really because I can't really drive it very far.

-
It's in the garage now, they've confirmed that yes it is the rumpy pumpy.
-
hi my 2001 just done the same quick test pull the return pipe of the header tank and see if there is water pumping out when took it out it was in 4 bits not good
-
blast from the past, that's my old mk2 in your sig?!
did you buy it from me? im up in northants?
-
Yes Pete! I bought it from you, I remember coming to North Hants!
And BTW, got the Mk4 back today, the old pump impeller had a crack and also it spun freely from the spindle!
Now the Golf is back, I can spend some time working on the Corvette and not worrying about getting it back together in time to get to work!
