Title: Electric hood manual operation
Post by: ataripower on 11 May 2009, 23:20
Hi, just wondering if anyone knows what exactly you have to do to operate the elecrtic hood on a mk1 cabby (1991) manually.

I've just been looking in the boot and there is a pool of fluid (not water) under the hydrolic on the right side. I cant tell where its coming from and don't want to risk using the power hood.

Can you switch it off and just use manually?

Cheers

You can operate it manually but....

On the left of the boot, attached to the hydrallic pump, there is a key . You have to turn it all the way and then you can operate it manually.
Even then, I wouldn't recommend it. If you've got a leak on one side then it will still leak out even when doing it manually and that key is only really meanyt to be used as an emergency proceedure if you can't shut the thing.

I ended up removing the pistons and pump on mine until I got a new setup. The hood works great on manual then.

Dump the electric system, more trouble than its worth. Plus it's quicker putting it up or down manually.

If the pool of liquid in the boot is hydraulic fluid then you should soon notice as the pump reservoir will be empty. Or at least lower than when you last looked.

Stay with the electric hood as you don't have to get out to open and close it.

Aye, I was. Am. I really didn't want a manual hood although I was quite surprised at how quick they can be put up and down manually.

Hey, thanks all for your replys and opinions. I have to admit I like the electric hood and was really suprised how quick it was....I just can't work out where the fluid it leaking from?

I cleaned it up then used the hood 3 times and it was fine, no leaking. Then I used it again and there is a load of fluid. So it only leaks sometimes...i'm confused

Anyway which way do I turn the key to operate manually. clock or anti clockwise?

Cheers
