Title: Gearbox Whine
Post by: ub7rm on 11 May 2009, 12:50
Does anyone else's gearbox (manual) make a whining noise when cold?  First noticed it this morning, quite noticable in first less so in second but not in any higher gears and didn't seem to be there at all once the car had warmed up a little.  I had the stereo off when I started out this morning which is why I've probably never noticed this before!  Otherwise shifts seem spot on.

Yep, Mine does this too, it also seems to go once she's warmed up a little, so i presume its normal.

Its pretty quiet, you have to listen for it to notice

I'll have a listen later - but don't think mine does.

Mine has done this since new. To be honest it was the first thing I noticed about driving the car....the gearbox is on the loud side! I mentioned it to the dealer, who assured me that it was normal!

Thats a relief!

It is very noticeable if you don't have the stereo on.  This is the first time after a years ownership I've heard it though!
