Title: Is my alternator knackered

Hi

When my lights are on, on my 1990 8 valve you can notice that the lights get brighter and then duller. Does this meen that the alternator is knackered or it could it be something as simple as needing a new belt, cause it does sqeak a bit in the wet !

seems to me like its doing its job. If it squeeks then give it a little WD40 to shut it up or change it.

The lights is probably down to a poor earth connection.
DO NOT spray WD40 on a v-belt, if it squeals then check the tension, or if it still squeals when the tension is correct, replace it.
