Title: Mk 3 16V Loss of ignition
Post by: j sizzle on 10 May 2009, 21:48
Hi,

I've got an 97 Mk3 16V with a pain of a problem. The oil temp goes up to about 96 (which I believe is too high) and then the revs will flucuate and ignition is totally lost (I know this because someone connected a VAG diagnostic scanner to it). Once things have cooled down a bit it is fine to drive again. Has anyone had a similar problem? The crank sensor has been recently changed. My local specialist is at a bit of a loss to explain the problem.

To be honest it's doing my swede in a bit especially as I've only had the car for a few weeks and can't use it properly. Any help or suggestions (apart from selling it!!) would be much appreciated. Cheers

Not sure on your problem but 96 is not that high, my 8v always was around 95

Thanks for the replies. The crank sensor and the coil pack have been changed. It seems to be a temperature thing (after reading some other threads I now see that 96 isn't that high!) There is no spark to the engine when it occurs. To change the hall sensor will I need a whole new dizzy?
