Hi guys need some help if possible, I shut my drivers door the other day and now cant open it from the outside or inside, i have taken the trim off the top of the door and can see the lever that pushes down and i can see the metal rod going to the lock mechanism. I have tried pushing down on the lever on the inside of the door handle but nothing. The metal rod going to the lock is also moving when i pull the inside lever.
It's as if the catch on the lock mechanism on the door itself has stuck and is not releasing! Now how on earth do i get to the lock mechanism to try and fix it??? :sad:
I thought about grinding the stiker pin off from behind the rear door card behind the drivers side so the door will open.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you sort it??? I have done a search on this but there are no definate answers on how to get the door open.

I have got the door card off and can see the inside of the lock, so what do i do now as it still it wont open! heres a pic

There us two levers on the lock one us the catch and the other is the lock,make sure the lock is unlocked,in the up position I believe and then push the other lever down,you may have to put quite abit of pressure on it and the door should pop open

Those look like the cheap chinese handles that cause many problems.
This might sound silly but have you pulled the door lock pin fully up? Its happend to me before. the pin looks like its up but its still locked.

lever on the right is the door lock finger, try fiddling with that. does look liek the door lock pin and cl bits are still hooked up though?
if that doesnt help as said it could be the cheapo aftemarket handles have jammed slightly which can cause the lock to stick, on the finger on the left is where the outer handle pops the door, try pushing upwards on this finger while you fiddle with the door lock finger.

No mate have not got it open yet! had a go yesterday but just ended up getting very frustrated and thought i best call it a night! :angry:
To be honest i think i am going to have to grind the striker pin off from behind the rear door card and get it open that way as i cant see any other way! :undecided:

Just a suggestion... but in your pic there is a white threaded plastic screw type fitting - it appears to rest on the lever which activates the mechanism...... have you tried a long broad bladed screwdriver between white screw and the metal lever.... push down on metal lever.
Have very nearly been where you are now with my driver's door, but the problem was with the handle trigger mechanism .... the white plastic adjustable screw had become distorted and was not doing its job. Another handle and a swap of the lock barrel sorted.

I have adjusted the screw so it pushes the lever down further but will give it a go, got nothing to loose have i! :smiley:

Your locking mechanism is stuck between "lock" and "unlock"
because the white screw is adjusted all the way down, its not allowing the lock to clear, wind the screw all the way up, lock, then unlock the door with the key, or by flicking the lever inside the door, then wind down the screw, half a turn at a time, till the door opens properly from the exterior handle, this type of VW lock cant really get jammed, unless something falls in them, so its usually poor adjustment that is to blame

I didnt know you had THAT mk2. :shocked: One of my dream mk2's! Stunning mate.
Those handles suit yours very well but they didnt help. I think your locking mechanism is faulty too. As your dad suggested...replace the plastic thread with a metal one as i saw the plastic one bend each time

Have replaced the plastic screw with a metal one, fitted the new strikers and everything is now pukka! :grin:

Too right mate, was so relieved when he got it open......i have now fixed the handle with a metal screw instead of those stupid bloody plastic screws!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's also a credit to the guys on here that come out of ther way to help fellow dubbers out :smiley:
Think i might have to actually message the person selling them on fleabay and just tell him how many problems those stupid plastic screws cause! :angry:
