Ok my car runs and idles fine, but when i put my footdown it allways get stuck at like 4000rpm.
but it slowly goes past it but just doesnt seem to power. now it also seems to top out about 100mph but wont go no faster? now the acceleration seems slower then my 1.6 16v escort.
This is a 2ltr 8v golf btw.
now i had a new gearbox fitted and the fitted a different gearbox so needed a differnt clutch, now i have reason to believe the gearbox was from a different mk3 sized engine, now would this be the cause of this problem? cos i mean even 1.2 corsa's can just about beat me on acceleration.
please please help me! i feel ashamed! owning something so slow!

Sounds like a dizzy/timing problem. has it had a cambelt recently?

i dont suppose a vac pipe may be the cause if its that bad..!?
last serviced, etc..

You may well have different ratios in that gearbox if its not the correct one for your car! But that wouldnt make too much difference.
Like the guys have said sounds like you have other power problems!

If the gearbox wasnt from a mk3 8v it could be the issue i suppose.
Was it like this before you changed the gearbox?
I have an 8v, and run rings around the cars mentioned above.

If it was a box ratio issue it would rev like hell, but he says it doesnt go past 4000 which sound right in 5th gear at 100mph.
Wont be the box, its something else! Fuel/ignition is my bet!
