Title: digifant 8v's - diffrence between engines. 120mph and 140mph
Post by: Mr Blue on 09 May 2009, 23:44
hello all

Ive had a few mk2 gti's now and have noticed on the digi's that the ones that come with 140mph clocks (as standard) are way more pokey than the ones that come with 120mph clocks.

Does anyone know why this is. The diffrence is power is noticable. Has anyone noticed?

you believe they are quicker as the clocks are fooling you into thinking they are

no not at all. Ive had a few now and can notice a diffrence in power from both. I picked one up the other week and only noticed that it had 140mph clocks today when I cleaned it (drove it home at night with no dash bulbs) Just wondered why they did diffrent clocks. Must be something.

Any engine, gearbox or flywheel diffrence?

all digi mk2 gti's sold on the UK market had PB engine codes. cant be too sure on whether they had the same g/boxes, but i would have thought so.

I think the change in clocks was when they went to 90-spec?

Could easily be wrong.

I'd go for placebo effect, too, unless there was a shorter gearbox fitted to some cars (cue an ETKA gimp).

my 87 gti 8v on k jet came with 140mph clocks as standard

and my 89 digi 8v came with 120

if thats any help

also my 87 is faster!

but thats mainly because the 89 was stupidly low and had a blown headgasket

eraly mk2's are faster than late ones  manily due to a massive weight differance.    the 1st few years they had bugger all sound deadening sinstalled just carpets,   after 86 they got heavyer    90 speck is heavyer again thanks to side inpact bars and more soundproofing again

pick up a pre and post 90 door.       90 spec golf ate a lot of pies in the factory

both my late 90 (H plate digi) and my early 89 (F reg digi small bumper failed project) had 120mph clocks.

I'm not sure about that, my 84 mk2 has just as much sound deadening as the 88 model did. It has the foam backed rubber stuff and also the grey sand filled (?) mats under the carpets and up against the bulkhead.

That said, the 84 one does feel a fair bit lighter and more nimble than the 88 one was

Just had did an inspection/ dig around.
the mk2 with the 140mph clocks has white injectors.

With the 120 ones they are green.

The last mk2 gti digifant i broke (was a minter!) had 140 mph clocks and had white injectors too. The previous one was 120 and had green.

I know i sound like a right dumb ass with this post but these are my findings if they help.
