Hi There!!
I have a question does my warranty become invalid for useing launch control?
Edition 30 DSG owner!! ps new to the forum so take it easy ha ha Steve
-
No it wont lol
-
As above, it won't touch your warranty. I'm sure it tells you in the manual how to undertake the 'acceleration procedure' as they put it..
-
No it wont lol
Agreed.
It even tells you how to carry out launch control in the handbook, so there is no way they can void warranty.
-
Its a feature of the car/DSG, so they cant void your warranty for using a feature of the car!
Saying that, Ive never tried launch control in my car yet......never needed to TBH!

ha! Same here. I am more than satisfied with the normal acceleration.

Are you not just, well, a bit curious..?

Hi , I was told by dovercourt in Battersea London, useing this function can damage the clutch in DSG box therefor making waranty invalid? This is my 4th Mk5 GTI, but on my current Edition30 I have not used this function> Dont to want to mess with my waranty? steve30
-
 I did use it many times on the other GTI's , but not this one!
-
If you bought some plates and they were microwave proof, but the salesperson said don't use them in a microwave, would you avoid putting them in a microwave?
If you got on a bus that you knew the number was right and was going where it said it was going, would you get off if the person you sat next to said it wasn't going that way?
Do you avoid cracks in the pavement because they could be "unlucky"?
If your answer is yes to all the above, then don't use the launch control!!!
-
^ haha well put :D
-
:undecided: so who's right ? The dealer or the forum?
I will use it from now on then. The car has just done 5000 miles bought from new 58 plate plaque no2098 here we go!! Thanks Guys Brilliant Forum lernt so much from here!!
-
I appreciate where your coming from but its common sense, its a feature of the car.
Its like saying could you please not wind the windows down as you might break them and don't open the glove box because the catch might break.
-
hello Alan, Nice to meet you mate just up the road from you in Balham,
What about the car's clutch useing this function will it damage the DSG box? Thanks Steve :undecided:
-
Hey Steve, aye just up the road. Us southerns got to stick together ;)
Its hard to define "damage", you are just putting under more load on it. Sitting at 3k revs and then dropping the clutch is a lot of stress put on the clutch, you certainly aren't going to be doing it any good. Full boar starts aren't going to do any clutch any favours be in it DSG or manual and you WILL reduce the life of the clutch if you regularly use LC.

Lauch control isnt exactly good for the DSG box - it stresses it.
It shouldnt be done on a regular basis IMO!
-
Thanks Alan!!
I may just give it one go ha ha ha  My beloved car is treasured. Pound for pound its the best car on road in my opinon!!
Oh by the way i'm from Manchester ha ha been in london for 20yrs though. Enjoy Steve

I've been on several "Run what ya brung" days at Santa Pod and I'm running 513nm (380lbft) and have used the launch control MANY,MANY times and the only thing I've done is had a DSG service early and it is fine
Last time out...over 20 launches (over half using LC).
-
If it was an issue they would have stopped it like Nissan did with the GTR (UK spec cars have not gotten the launch control function and so are being tested at 4.7 secs to 60, not quite the 3.6 claimed by nissan  )
-
How will the know you used it???
-
Not sure, the GTR logged it. Possibly it does to (TC off)
-
Hi , It comes up in the DSG Computer (vag Codes)!! The dealers know what's been causing the clutch burnt out Useing LC! This is what was said to me by Dovercourt. My Take on this issue is dont F---- about with it to much Or its going to cost you loads of dosh!! steve ED30
-
I was somewhat surprised to see a launch control option being mentioned. Is this option only available on the Mk5 ED30 or GTI's as well Regards Tony
-
DSG cars mate
Into S
Foot on brake
TC off
Go pedal to the floor (i raise it slightly)
Side step brake
Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooom

 I would'nt push the throttle to the floor , you will blow the clutch out or end up in space Tony. Just take the rev's upto 2.5 to 3000 revs , foot off the breaks. Very very quick off mark. Its brilliant for person next to you, who think he beat you off the lights  Oh , then there's the smile when you look in your rear view mirror excellent. steve30

I can see this being quite addictive and might be a bit of a blessing in disguise that I have a manual lol
Im just watching TG on Dave and to quote Clarkson (in Ferrari 599) "Launch Controls is for fat useless drivers designed to impress their friends" :D Made me think of this thread.
-
Hi Alan  Brilliant that , your just jellouse coz you aint got it ha ha , I do have a bit of a gutt  on me though enjoy mate Steve30
-
Sounds bang on to me, ive only used to show my friends
-
I've managed better times on the 1/4 mile without it :lipsrsealed:
Shhhhh.....don't tell anyone

Thats what Clarkson did, he went faster not using the TC which inspired that quote lol
-
Erm...not sure if its been said, but the revs will be limited to 3200 rpm I believe. So you only need to push the pedal enough to hit this limit if you wanted.
Personally, when I did it...I moved into Manual. Left Foot on brake. DSC off. Right foot accelartor to the floor. The left foot off....wahooooooooooooooooo.
There isn't a single red blooded male that wouldn't smile....
EDIT: Forgot to say. My best mate is Master Tech for VW. He confirmed that LC is tracked in the Vag Codes. This is not reported on unless the car comes in presenting problems related to gearbox/clutch/transmission. However, he has never been asked to print this out even on GTI's that have had problems. I think this would only be an issue if you kept coming in with f**ked gearboxes.
