hi all,
what wheels would you recommend for my purple gti??
its got 17" rs4's on now, but they are too big and i get alot of arch rub!!!
would anyone want these for a swap for some 16's?
any thoughts considered!!
cheers!
-
These would be ideal.

They're very similar to TT comps, but are 16's and lighter too.

16" Merc wheels with stupid low profile tyres are a winner :P

not keen on the tt comps...
but thanks for replying!!
the merc wheels are bloody gorg!!!
but its either a straight swap of whatever i could sell mine for and get new with!!
money is tight at the mo... and i dont think this rubbing is doing it any good, lol
cant even do a national road properly, go down a dip and back up it does an all wheel rub!! lol
cheers!

Well worth checking 2 things on your 17"s, if it is not lowered they should not rub that much.
1) What offset are they, stamped on the wheel will be an et number this needs to be at least 35.
2) Tyres, 205/40/17 are the correct size
I ran 17"s with a 70mm drop and they only caught the rear arch now and then.
-
Running my wheels Ive had to have all of the arches cut down a lot so its not really cost effective :/
PCD adaptors seem to be pretty pricey to fit merc wheels too :(
Plenty of nice wheels about though! Also, check what Wayne has suggested as if it is standard height, it should not rub that much.
-
its been lowered quite far!!
but its the back it rubs most -
will check what et they are!!
even catches when i get 3/4 lock on??
pain in the arse really, lol
thatnks for the help though??
also, the ride is a bit crap, im guessng that ride quality will improve on 16's?
cheers.
-
The ride depends on the suspension/tyres aswell as the wheel size but I would say it probably will improve :)
get some pics up mate :)
-
Any design you like but in GOLD!

Sounds like your offset is wrong, this was mine, 7x17 (et35) with 205/40/17's, I had to trim the rear arch lips back but was fine but would still catch now and again if you had weight in the boot.

I'm a BBS whore so I say BBS RXIIs, I have BBS RXs on my GL, they look the sex on a MK3, very generic but there's a reason, they look wicked :)
-
will get some pics up later!!
maybe the offset is all wrong, they look the nuts,
but im more of a driver, so prefer to be able to hang on a corner at 60 than go round it at 40 looking swarve, lol
i quite like deep dish alloys, borbet a's are defo my fav i think!!!
-
hi all, just trying to upload a pic of the car, but failing, any clues?? lol
-
Make an account on www.photobucket.com mate :)
-
i had a quick look on the back of the wheel and i cant see any specs stamped on??
unless they are one of the back of the spokes??
nothing obvious i could see anyway which i thought was odd??

i quite like rs4's on a mk3, maybe try a diff colour? grey? :undecided:
-
dont get me wrong, i love em, just want smaller ones, not sure if ya can get em smaller??
just cant be bothered with the constant rubbing...
how much are ya looking at for having arches rolled???
-
They should be et35, next thing to check are the tyres 205/40/17's.

i was looking on banded steels the other day and they do arch rolling for 100 quid so could use that as a guide http://www.bandedsteels.com/Prices.html
-
had these wheels on my vr when i bought it, changed them for some D90's.
£100 for all four arches rolled is quite a good price, cheapest i quoted was £30 per arch.
-
ok, the tyres are 205/40/17's!!
what is involved in wheel arch rolling??
do they repaint it as standard??
cos mine are fairly rusty?!
anyone got any rs4's in 16"?

Rs4's are not available in 16", to roll or fold your arches your going to need to lose the plastic covers.
-
ok, had a sleep and i dont wanna lose the plastic trim, cos i think the gti needs that in my opinion, sosmaller wheels is the plan!!
how much would you sell the rs4's for??
they fairly well scuffed but in good nick otherwise!!
