Title: 1.8t
Post by: Cable on 08 May 2009, 00:37
Im looking to get a 1.8t, are all of the engines tunable to the same extent? ie the BAM TT engine gives 225 and the golf 150, can i just buy the golf engine and bring that up to 225?

No the golf engine won't easily reach 225. You might be better posting this in the remapping section as it isnt really mk3 specific, more engine related.

You would need about £1500 to reach 225!

On an AUM for example, a sport cat (or de cat) and exhaust,Forge 007p, R32 DSG intake with PiperX panel filter, maybe a FMIC and a decent custom map. Then things like a T.I.P and boost hoses would be beneficial.

What is the difference between the two engines, is it worth getting rid of my abf engine and replacing it with the aum? I take it they are more tunable because of the turbocharger. What can a remap do to the aum without any other mods? Thanks

AUM will run about 230bhp with decat and cooler + decent remap
BAM will run about 270bhp with decat and cooler + decent remap

AUM has k03s and the BAM has the k04. 1.8t ftw, DO IT!!

just some stats for ya.

Thanks, whats ko3 and ko4 are they turbos? Can r-tech do a good enough remap for 230 bhp. Cuz the bams are quite pricy like £1500 n the aum are like £400 so is it woth buying the bam as a base or spending the rest on aum?

k03, k03s and k04 are turbos that come as standard on 1.8t. bam's have the k04s. BAM go for around £1000, at least wen i was looking for them, and the others went for around £700.

If you want to run around 270bhp, then the BAM is the way forward. its quite a lot of hassle to make an AUM or similar k03/k03s engine produce that much.

i'd suggest getting an AUM or any 1.8t that runs a k03s and get it mapped, etc. what car are you putting it in? im putting mine in a mk3 and im running qpeng.com management. its big money, but the ecu comes ready mapped. if you havent thought about management, i'd check there website out, good stuff.

as for which engine. if you want to spend that much extra and get like 40bhp more then go for it. but if they are costing that much money, then dont do it.

Yh its going in a mk3 aswell, do you have to make up different mounts? yh i might have to go for that management aswell, does the mk3 need those down pipes?

you will need to get a downpipe from qpeng as well, unless you can modify the 1.8t downpipe to fit your mk3.

give us pm m8 if you got any questions. mine should be done in the next few weeks.
