Title: Indicators stop working on braking
Post by: mayhewa on 07 May 2009, 21:13
I have a 1995 Golf Mk3 GTI 16v, The indicators and hazard lights work fine until the brake pedal is depressed at this stage the indicators stop working, the brake lights work fine. Am i right in thinking that this could be an earth problem ?

yeah I would say so, is it the same regardless of if the car is moving or not?
there are earth points in the boot behind the carpet/foam either side, so start there :)

Is it all the inicators/hazards fail, not just the rear ones?

Yh either an earth problem or you have got the wrong bulb somewhere and it is bridging a gap.

Jumped in the car this morning to go to work, checked the indicators when depressing the brake pedal, they worked !!! then several miles down the road indicated then braked they stop working again !!! then they start working again !!!

I'll check all the earths tonight.

sounds like a loose wire then, as you're movin about its loosing connection. that being said i had a similar intermittant fault with the left indicators, if i braked and turned left the relay went off like a machine gun, new indicator stalk sorted it :)

hmm, its possible but an odd one to be sure!
sounds more liek a dodgy alarm installation, as they tend to be spliced into the indicators and the door pins...
