Title: ECU Question???!!!
Post by: ineson on 07 May 2009, 16:51
Had my car in the garage for a week now but still no luck on finding the fault from this thread -

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=115564.0

Anyway the latest thing to try is the ECU, I have been told by the garage that if they send if off they charge around £40 to check the ECU and then a couple of hundred for a new one. This just isn’t an option so my thought was to get a second hand one off ebay or off here that would suit my car and try that.

Now I have been given the number from the garage and what I need to know is does the ecu I buy have to mathc up with the serial number exactly as there are a few different numbers available and also letters after them. Also would I need a transponder key if I got one with the same serial number.

The number on mine is 037 906 025 R

Sorry if it’s a dumb question just at the end of my tether with the car now and seriously thinking of towing it home and breaking it.

You're on the verge of when transponders were bought in.  You could have look in Passats as well, but ETKA says Golf, Vento and Golf Variant only.

The code on the end means which version it is, I believe they have to match.

Just for info, you can change the transponder ring and the chip in the key if needed.
